30 Bananas a Day!

Hi Everyone!

I'm getting ready for a trip to India for 2 months! Just wondering if anyone has had experience being raw/vegan in India. I've heard eating raw fruit is just fine as long as you wash with bottled water.

Are there any other tips, tricks, or things to be concerned about from your experience?

Thanks!
Sangeeta

Hi there! :)

Actually I'm in Goa right now at a this wonderful veg/vegan hotel restaurant called "Bean Me Up" It's near Anjuna Beach and is a wonderful place in midst of this paradise! As I write I see monkey's running all around in the trees..you'll love it here :)

I might not be in Goa around the time you are, but send me a msg just in case. I plan on going to Kerala within a week.

Good luck and pls email me if you have any other questions (kumaridesignsphotography@gmail.com)

Peace,
Sangeeta
hmm, I know this isn't directed to me, but good idea Ivan ;).. I am also a member of coachsufing.com, I will search it now! :))) ,
i just received a call from sangeeta who is in india of course.
she apparently ate some fruit called amrood and has diarrhea even though she washed and peeled the fruit.
she is not 811 and also eats some cooked food which she says hasn't caused any problems there.

i'm surprised that fruit would cause a digestive problem unless it wasn't ripe or there was something weird about it.

everyone is telling her to either eat some rice/bread etc or to take pills. she knows better since she's familiar with shelton.

however, does anybody know about why fruit would cause problems in india? others have told her that it does.

prad
i doubt it because she hasn't been to india for ages.
i suppose some fruit can take a bit of getting used to.

Prad,

I assume we are talking about Guava?

Some say it is good for constipation so maybe this is the valve that released the flood gates.

Having any kinds of bowl problems on travel is never fun.

She can eat bread and rice but constipation will be coming around the corner.

I might recommend thick skinned fruit bananas, citrus etc.

Do you know if she is hydrated enough?
bigG thx!
i'll pass this info to her.

i told her to not eat and drink purified water. for some reason people are telling her to dring carbonated water.

HI Big G!

Actually Amrood is Guava! So perhaps that's it... I also had some raw figs (amazingly delicious) and right afterwards my stomach felt unsettled. Luckily I only had very loose stools no vomiting or stomache aches.

I have been eating lots of bananas and some oranges...I've tried to stay away from this skinned fruits which many people have told me to do, but I haven't gotten sick in the 2 weeks that I'd been here so I thought I'd give it a try. Now I'm nervous to do it again.

Some locals have said that it could just be getting used the microbes in the area and once you've gotten it, it'll be a lot easier in the future. What do you think of this theory? I guess it makes sense if you're body is not used to a certain microorganism it might react and then settle down once it's introduced again.

Anyhow, I think I'm on the way up...just finished some fresh papaya juice and will just be juicing until I'm better (which will prob be tomo morning)

Thanks!
Sangeeta
It might also just rather be that you are exposed to some unfamiliar bacteria, not necessairily the food :)
