Before this happened to me ive heard of about 2 people who were raw fooders who had the same problem. Basically you eat a meal with high fiber (in my case it happens with salads, mangos, etc) and youre ok for a few minutes then the minute it touches the intestines you end up bending over on the floor to withstand the pain, that may subside or not over the next 20 minutes.
Needless to say, i always thought this was a product of bad combining, not following the diet to the point, etc.
Then the problem knocked at my door and im here thinking, ok, what will i do about this? these two people went back to a more omnivorous diet, and it worked wonders for them, but for me its not an option. Ive never experienced a better health in my life, except for this issue, which im sure i will get over.
Currently im peeling my fruit and getting as little fiber as i can with juices and dates, eating more bananas than regularly.
So far so good, not much to worry about, but then i eat a salad and i go down. (and im talking lettuce arugula and lemon juice, nothing fancy)
Im sure there must be people in this position, as im starting to think its a common downfall of the lifestyle.
any help would be wonderful
Have you had any major digestive issues in the past (such as celiac, ibs, crohn's etc.) or is this something that has just occured out of the blue?
I would suggest maybe taking a trip to banana island for a week or two. Bananas are so easy to digest and would give your system a rest for a while. Then gradually reintroduce other foods as monomeals.
Never a digestive issue, even eating the most barbaric of diets many years ago.
Im taking banana / date island into serious consideration. What a shame for that nice box of mangoes i bought. =p
I just did a 92 day juice feast and it cleaned out my system to a large degree - on ALL levels. I was doing 2 qts of green smoothies per day and found out it was way too much fiber leading to gas, etc. Now I'm flying high on 80/10/10, tracking on cron-o-meter and doing excellent. I did find that green smoothies AND salads per day were too much but I still needed my lb of greens per day minimum. So, I continued doing my V6 green juice drink, doing tons of fruit, and then dinner would be a multitude of vegie sources.
1 lb of tomatoes
1 lb of greens (rotate these!)
about 12 ozs of carrots
about 12 ozs of celery
1 whole cucumber
about 8 ozs of baby bok choy or bok choy
1/2 clove of garlic
This makes about 6 cups.
Again, it was definitely too much fiber for my system before and I still wanted the nutrition. Whatever I have problems with in the digestive arena I avoid. Right now dates are too sweet for me.
There are so many choices on this program we don't need to stick with what is giving us problems. There is NO gain in pain. I'm happy to see you are so committed to this program. You will find an answer and thanks for starting this discussion.
