Every time we go to areas with monkeys we have troubles with them.
One time they wanted to get in our tent in Koh Jum. I tried to scare them with a rock, however they started charging after me with exposed teeth.
Another time we were in Koh Phi Phi hiking. When descending a group of maybe 5 or 6 monkeys approached us, specifically my girlfriend. I started to throw big rocks at them, but they got even more agressive. Dogs would be long gone by now. Unfortunatelly I hit my grilfriend straight in the head with a big rock and she started bleeding. After I kept screaming and 2 thai guys came to help us with airsoft guns. Only then they backed up. We had to take my gf to hospital where she got 6 stitches on the head.
So therefore I am asking here if anyone knows of some proven way to scare the monkeys away.
I know most advice out there says that they want your food. Does it mean that you should not hike with a backpack on? What about the water for the day?
Thanks for advice.
They approached you and did what? It doesn't sound like they were agro until you started throwing shit at them.
Why do you need to scare them away? Give them some bananas.
you obviously havent encountered monkeys yet. They will take whatever they want from you.
thanks for your advice. We some actually bought some firecrackers before going to Khao Sok national park, but we didnt have any bad monkey encounters. We just saw them on the other side of the river, luckily they didnt cross.
