Sorry if this has been asked recently!
I love fruit, and its all i ever want to eat. I dont crave greens but i know i must have them so i try and force down a small salad (1/2 head lettuce and a few toms) every day if i can, but i really need to find more exciting ways of eating my greens without doing a smoothie.
Ive had lettuce chopped with nectarines and peached, and also with mango which was nice ( a lil messy!)
and my personal fave, dates rolled up on lettuce leaves (thanks DR for that 1!)
what other ideas do you have for making salad a little less of a chore?
How long have you been eating this way? Typically, it takes some time to develop a natural taste for green leafy vegetables. Eventually, you will start to crave salt and the greens will taste saltier and saltier the longer you remain with a 100% low fat raw and healthy lifestyle. Personally at the beginning, I had no desire for greens, but I blended tomatoes with lettuce/cucumber/celery and had a soup of that after my evening dinner of usually citrus. After around 2-3 months, I was eating pounds of greens per day. Now, I can easily consume 3-4 heads of lettuce in a day when I get my hands on good organic dark leaves.
If I could go back and do something different its only eating foods that appeal to me, particularly in the form of taste. Go heavy on the cucumbers, melons, tomatoes and occassional overts to ensure your needs are met if you have no desire for greens. If you really want them, romaine lettuce/banana smoothie is one of the best ever.
Thank you for your reply.
Ive only been eating lfrv a few weeks (but not the first time doing this) so you think it will come with time? I hope so, because i know they are important, i just dont want eating them to be a chore!
Ideas like this seem very good :)
This is a problem I have too, and I agree that smoothies and dressings are a good way to get around it!
Good stuff ^^
I have a hard time eating greens too. I don't crave them at all usually :(
Last night I tried something with my greens that was delicious though! I made mango salsa with mangoes, tomatoes, cilantro, green onions, and avocado (just chop half the ingredients and blend the other half then mix together) and then filled romaine leaves with that, burrito style. With the help of mango salsa, I ate 3 heads of romaine lettuce :)
@Lana, I hope you enjoy it!
@Andre I only put half of my ingredients in the food processor and chopped the rest up into small pieces, then mixed them together. I didn't add any water, so it didn't turn out too thin for me.
id love nothing more than to try datorade or a lovely mixed smoothie, but for the life of me, they just wont go down!
i get so bloated after a couple of mouthfuls and i cant drink anymore. Ive tried 'chewing' them and ive even had the most simple bananas and water (quite thin) but to no avail :(
Honestly, I will enjoy any greens any time if I add fat to them. This wouldn't mean that I crave greens - just that I crave a substitute for a cooked dish.
The trick is to wait and discover your natural craving for plain greens.
Nothing will happen if you give yourself some time.
