How to eat a pineapple without having my whole mouth bleed?

I've tried fresh pineapple 5 times now and every time it made my mouth bleed in severe pain. Every time I had them, they were very ripe, golden, sweet and soft with a nice pineapple aroma but despite that they were still burning me while I was eating them to the point that my pineapple would become red from my lips bleeding. I even tried freezing them to deactivate bromelain enzyme and it still cause the same problem. Canned or store bought frozen pineapple do not cause this issue but every kind of fresh pineapple does this, I avoid pineapple for this reason but I would love to find a way to eat them without having to boil them.

So does fresh local pineapple not do this?  Or just do it to a lesser extent?  I've heard people say that the pineapple in Hawaii is amazing, but not nearly as good as in the states.

On a tangent, I had an amazing smoothie from a shop in a town I was driving through the other day...it was mango, pineapple, almond milk, and vegan protein powder (kind of a RT4 meal) and it was absolutely delicious!  I've been struggling with making good-tasting mango smoothies, so I've kind of skipped doing them (mostly since I prefer mono meals during the day for my stomach), but I guess that's the secret ingredient - mix pineapple with your mangos to get an amazing flavor!

If you get it local from a farmer, you have a better chance of getting one that's actually ripe.

True! Mango and pineapple is a great combo!

Like I said, if you get them straight from the farmer, that's a different ball game.  If you get them from a shop that got them through a distributor, no matter how long you leave it out, and no matter how it smells and looks, the amount of bromelain will be no less than the day you bought it.

I think they "ripen" as in getting sweeter and softer but I don't think the bromelain change much though.

They get softer as they rot but they are not ripening hence not getting sweeter, they are one of many fruits that do not ripen once picked.

Also keep in mind that fruits that do ripen once picked can still be picked so early that they won't ripen.

go eat it off the bush. otherwise it's not worth buying. Just in fruit salads at weddings or restaurants or what have you.

Soak the already cut pineapple in ice water if it's to acidic!

I am allergic to latex and pineapple so I don't eat it.  If you have any history of latex sensitivity, and or continue to have a reaction to pineapple, then I recommend avoid.

My 7th grade orchestra teacher told me that everyone is at least a little allergic to pineapple. Not sure why I remember that lol. It could be the live enzymes too. I guess the ones in pineapple eat at your mouth or something
