30 Bananas a Day!

I'm converting completely to the 801010 but I have three boxes of quinoa and some dulse seaweed left... I feel like I shouldn't let it go to waste... I just wanted to know what your opinion is on those two food items? I know they're definitely not the worst. Quinoa is light and filling, and Dulse is a sea vegetable. But I'd just like to get some personal opinions on these food items. I don't know whether or not I should consume them. Typically, I mix just the dulse seaweed with the cooked qunioa when I eat them.

I really want to make a life commitment to being a low fat raw vegan. Thanks.

"Remember, seaweed is the liver of the ocean. As such it is not just high in minerals, but also in all the PCB's, dioxins, mercury, lead and other crud that ends up in our waters. It is also very high in seasalt, which is toxic to humans, unlike organic sodium found in veggies and fruit. Also, if you are an ethical vegan, some sources often have dead crustacians, killed as part of the gathering process, then dried and crushed as part of the seaweed. Particularly with Nori.

Also, there is some controversy about whether its vegan at all, regardless of the crustacians. Seaweed is in a weird class that is neither plant nor animal. They are in a unique class called protists.

I totally forgot to mention the B12 analogues. This is a big concern indeed. I think dulse is uncertain whether it is neutral, (has no impact on b12 status) but certainly the others have the potential to hasten b12 deficiency in vegans by blocking the b12 receptors."

Wow ednshell. Fascinating about seaweed being the liver of the ocean, and having toxins. My eyes have been opened. Do you happen to have a reference at hand on this?

Hi Jane, sorry I do not have a reference and unfortunately that original post and the thread has been deleted.

Here are a couple of good links on the topic next to the ingredient listed on the unsupported list here: http://www.30bananasaday.com/notes/Ingredients_and_photos_not_suppo...

Hope that helps! :)

Thank you. That's a handy list.

If I was in this situation I would go ahead and try sprouting the quinoa just to see how it tastes.  (Maybe small amounts of them would go good in your salads.)  But as far as the dulse goes, if I had any seaweed left over from my pre 80/10/10 days I don't see any other option than to throw it in my garden.

personally if I HAD to eat the quinoa I would eat it cooked. Sprouted raw is waay too harsh on the digestive system. Just thinking about it makes me shudder. Give the dulse to your plants...

actually do you have a dog? If you do you can feed it cooked quinoa. That way its not wasted and you don't have to eat it. My vegan dog loves quinoa with cooked veggies.

Hmm.. Well thank you for all of your input guys... I have a very emotional connection with Quinoa. It's the only cooked food that I still eat. I just love it so much. But I'm trying to break up with it at the same time. It's definitely not easy.
hey cool! what else do you feed your dog? a lot of rawliving foods?
i give dulse to my plants :D they're thriving
