I live in iceland and i can get bananas in 3 different main prices...
Most expensive in the cheap stores is 2 bucks per kg
After that the price i mainly get them for is 1.6 dollars per kg
SOMETIMES when they have them in another store they put a red tape around them and sell them for 0.8 dollars a kg ! =) i always take all of them when they have them, but they havent had them since christmas.
They´ve been getting so many green ones that the over ripe ones (to them) arent avalible.
usually when i buy them i can get them to stay for up to a week longer even though they are ripe in the first place :D
I just got two boxes 40lbs or 18kg each yesterday of the middle price ones... 1.6 dollars... so i paid about 50-60 dollars for them.
How about you? :)
Hi Sarah - do you know if they mark down in all Asda around that time, a new one opened here a few weeks ago, I went once and wasn't impressed but it'll be worth a visit at that price!
The last case (40lbs) of bananas I bought were $30, but I've been paying $40 normally from my grocery store. And of course, they're delicious and organic :)
Most grocery stores average about 50-60 cents a pound. I routinely find them in dollar bags, 99 cents for a couple of pounds of perfectly spotted ripe ones, and Trader Joe's sells them for 19 cents apiece, or 5 for 95 cents. California is great!
Germany. Up to 2€ (around 3$) per kg. Sometimes for free.
Tip: Buy 1 box per week in advance, so you're safe, then hunt down bargains, not the other way. Remember there's about 30% loss for bananas and oranges due to the peels, so you'll get about 12kg out of an 18kg box. If they're organic, don't throw the peels away, use them to enhance your garden soil. They provide a lot of potassium and selenium. If you blend the softer parts, the peels decompose really fast.
That's surprisingly cheap for Iceland as I guess that hardly any fruit can be grown in Iceland and therefore everything is imported. Lately in Sydney, Australia, bananas have been around $2 per kg. At some places they have been on special for $1 per kg.
Australia is much dearer for bananas!!
Right now, I find banana's over here to be the cheapest way to eat over anything you can possibly buy from anywhere.
I buy 3 boxes of organic bananas for $54 here in Cairns, Australia!
Where abouts? I would love boxes of organic banana's, but cant find a good price in Australia. should i get them shipped interstate?
I realise this was posted a long time ago.. but do u still get this deal Blacksapote?! If so can u pls let me know where from? I'm back in Cairns now and the good stuff is not that easy to find..
I pay 1,2 dollars per 1 kilo. I'm from Lithuania :)
At the Farmers' Market we just paid $1 per 4 bananas.
At a small produce market we would pay .50 cents/ 1lb for ripe, $1.29/lb for unripe.
At a larger produce market they are organic and 49. cents/lb ripe and .99 cents/lb for unripe.
Hello from central Florida USA ^_^
