I live in iceland and i can get bananas in 3 different main prices...
Most expensive in the cheap stores is 2 bucks per kg
After that the price i mainly get them for is 1.6 dollars per kg
SOMETIMES when they have them in another store they put a red tape around them and sell them for 0.8 dollars a kg ! =) i always take all of them when they have them, but they havent had them since christmas.
They´ve been getting so many green ones that the over ripe ones (to them) arent avalible.
usually when i buy them i can get them to stay for up to a week longer even though they are ripe in the first place :D
I just got two boxes 40lbs or 18kg each yesterday of the middle price ones... 1.6 dollars... so i paid about 50-60 dollars for them.
How about you? :)
wow that sounds like a rip off.!
I live in Rotterdam and found bananas for about 18 € a box (20 kg), not organic though. It's not the cheapest but better than the supermarket prices. Looking for a wholesaler in this city now.
There is currently a price high for bananas I had to pay 25 euros (32USD) for a box of 18 kilogram (40 pounds) non-organic banana's. The company previous selling the fair-trade banana's have gone bankrupt. (they are looking to restart) They where being squeezed by the supermarkets until they gave out. I tried buying two boxes of banana's at the C1000 supermarket yesterday, but they wouldn’t allow me. I stood there with two boxes in my arms until some manager told me it is 4 kilogram per person maximum.
well better than dumpster diving is working with food not bombs of course where they just give you them before tossing them because you are going go feed homeless . but your welcome! so much goes to waste it is disgusting
very challenging and rather out of reach here in Korea just now.... the tiny organic bananas are over 1.00 USD each! the commercial variety (which taste awful and are poorly ripened) are only slightly less.... watermelon now 34.oo for small to average... bag of mandarin oranges nearly 10.00; apples 1.50-2.00 each.... all, everything, is tres cher, tres cher
$23-26 for a 40lb case depending on the brand that is available. Best price I can find in toronto.
31 pence a lb (in UK) even less if i go in late and get the slightly spotted ones that are reduced (5pence a banana in sainsburies!)
31p a lb from where?? what time do they start doing that in sainsburys?
20p a pound in Asda, UK.
When they mark them down because they have brown spots. They mark fruit down after 4pm. You need to go in quite persistently to catch the right day.
cool - luckily there is an asda on the way home from work but the few times i have gone in i have found the prices are pretty high for fresh food comapred to lidl which is where i get my vegetables
