30 Bananas a Day!

I'm a 147 lb female and do a 1-hour, moderate to intense workout 4-5 times per week.  

 

How many calories should I be eating per day?

Yep, BMR is just what keeps you alive and maintaining weight doing absolutely nothing.  Just normal activity, working, shopping, etc adds calories.  My BMR is 1800 and normal activity calories adds 800.  Now add for workouts and I'm 3K cals minimum.

Awesome.  Thanks Kyndra!  4500 cals sounds a lot better than the 2000 or 2500 numbers I've been hearing.

 

I've been eating 3000-3500 a day and honestly I'm still hungry and start 'cravings' for ridiculous cooked stuff in the evening.  From what I've heard that's a big sign I'm undercarbed.  

 

Should I worry about gaining weight on 4500 cals a day?  The girl in me starts to get nervous when I think about eating that many cals, especially since as it is I'm at an all-time weight 'high'.  

I am new here, so this may need to be verified by a third party.

 

I "think" 30BAD's guideline is 2400 for women.  If that seems too high (based on the age old calorie logic), it it not supposed to matter, as long as your active.  Eating true 811rv is so low in fat, it should not be possible to gain weight, other than muscle, if your active.

 

The goal is to eat MORE than you think you need logically, to help curb cravings.

Bare minimum is 2500 for females who aren't active. If you want to thrive aim for 3000 +, exercise, sun, water and you are on the right path.
I'm still working on the 3000 :) I am sure one day I'll get to where your at Terra..maybe all the durian coming in to season here will help. Just hope my digestive system can handle it!!

Thank you!  It's so nice to hear this 4500 number.  I've been eating 3000-3500 cals a day and still hungry and was wondering how that could be - as the number I'd previously heard recommended for females was 2500.  

 

Will I gain weight on 4500 cals?  I've heard on this site that women especially might gain weight INITIALLY when they get their cals high enough, but over time they will move toward their ideal weight.  

 

Can I (over time) move to a more healthy weight eating 4500+ cals/day?

I'm new too lfrv, actually today is only my 3rd day, I ate high fat raw vegan before. Yesterday I easily consumed 3,750 cal. I did 2+ hours moderate exercise (12 miles bike/1 mile jog/12 miles bike) I'm currently 175 lbs; 35lbs overweight. If I use the conventional calculation of my calorie need I overate 660 cal and maintaining this ratio  would lead to gain weight. I highly doubt that. I don't think that conventional calorie calculation makes much sense in our case.

UPDATE: Wow, 3000 cals is officially SO not enough calories.  When I only eat 3000 cals, I feel edgy, hungry, and all around low-bloodsugary.   I also wake up at 4 am STARVING!

 

I am in that 'window' Freelee talks about where women need 500-1000 more calories per day.  So maybe my daily caloric need is only 3500, but right now I need more.

 

We shall see!   So much to figure out on this diet/lifestyle!

Could you explain a bit more about the 'window'/ extra calories thing please?

Help! I am having trouble figuring out how many calories I need each day.

 

I am extremely active - bikram yoga (90 minutes hard core sweating) 5-6 days a week and off days I run 5 miles at the gym doing intervals and speed running on treadmill..my pace is never lower than 6 mph and incline no lower than 1.

 

I also live in NYC. So I am always going up and down stairs and walking around...plus I take care of a 6 year old which means I'm always running around after him.

 

I'm 5"7 and typically weigh about 110 lb. How many calories should I be eating???
