well as i said, for me its about 20 years or so... not really counting lol! but i'm 40, and only really experimented with make up as a teenager. my first daughter was born when i was just 20, and from then on, i guess i only did things that made sense to me... make up not being one of them.
we got into facepaint when my kids were young, but that's very different!
and it was more for them than me... remember being a green witch at halloween once. i liked painting people body paint sometimes, but more like turning them into ogres or something.
not something i've tried for ages lol!
love the natural look. love the feel of my skin. always get compliments as to how young i look, how good my skin is etc (no smoking here to line it lol)
my partner is also a make up hater. which is fine for both of us
really don't understand why people do it. my 16 year old does, she's pretty unhealthy unfortunately, and has some problems with acne, so tries to hide under make up. just makes her skin worse. hopefully she'll grow out of it in a few years or so.
i try and be a good example lol :-)
it amazes me how many women feel that they have to 'conform' by wearing makeup, especially at work. another reason for not being in the 'system'.
emx
You know, that last bit about women feeling that they have to conform by wearing makeup reminded me about how difficult it often can be to avoid makeup in certain situations.

I remember about 24 years ago I was on a few television shows about women's issues and had a really hard time keeping them from putting makeup on me. LOL They kept offering and the other guests were grateful, but I didn't want it at all. They were sorta' incredulous about it, not understanding how or why I'd not want makeup in the "bright lights" of the studio and all. Everyone believed that "you'd get all washed out" by the lights and all, so you need something. Even the men were getting makeup for this reason.

It's a myth, really, at least it was for me, someone not used to makeup who already had rosy cheeks, red lips, dark eyelashes, etc. I looked fine on the shows, the same as usual as far as I could tell. I don't know if that changed any of the regulars on there's views about the necessity of makeup or not, but perhaps it helped free them from it a bit. My purpose was selfish though, didn't want the stuff on my face, heh, but perhaps it helped others avoid it later too.

I've also run into performance situations where I've been asked to perform something on stage or for an audience with other people and I agree, conditional on not having to wear makeup. I've learned that it's easiest to just get the issue addressed from the beginning. Not having to wear makeup is that important to me. It gives people pause, sometimes they decide not to use me ('cause they have some special look they're doing (like green skin) or something like that), but usually they accept it as part of the deal and it works out quite well.

There are so many situations where people think you have to do something, but most of the time we really do have a choice. It's interesting to discover.
2 years completely make up free here!

5 years of just wearing makeup on special occasions, like my wedding..but after that I threw it all away...even before going raw..my husband loves me without it, and so do I..I feel like I can breathe. <3
I honestly dont see how girls wear that crap! "It's like I'm broke out, pile on some pore clogging crap to make it worse" silly silly girls!

Thanks for the group FREE!
About two years for me too. After I had my son, I simplified my life so much and makeup and jewelry were two of those areas. When I made the decision to have my son despite being single, it empowered me enough so I stopped trying to be someone that I wasn't. I never wore mush anyway, so it wasn't a big switch, but it was significant to me.
Nice, wasnt a big switch for me either. Being a single mommy you really dont have time for those things anyways..."it empowered me enough so I stopped trying to be someone that I wasn't" by doing that you became who you really are!
This is all so great to hear ladies! Isn't is amazing how empowering it can be to drop the makeup?? I never thought it would have such a profound effect on my self esteem
I've been makeup free for about a year now!! (: I love it!
Awesome!
Hmmm.... can't really remember the last time I had any makeup at all on... probably the David Bowie/Souxie & the Banshees concert I went to in college (circa 1985 or 6-ish?) - put a spiderweb by my eye... didn't wear makeup before that for many years... tended to do Goth style back in HS whenever I did it for myself (rarely), only wore it otherwise for modeling when I was a teen... don't like stuff on my skin, so never was all that into it. Never wore it on a daily basis or anything.

Been free of soap (except for hands occasionally as needed), shampoo, conditioner, lotions, creams and other things people put on their skin & hair for many years now too... think it's been about 5 or more. Lovin' the freedom of it too. :)
wow that's fantastic Janie, very inspiring X
Awesome Hina :) I wish i could say pretty much my whole life! Although I didn't wear much, it was still part of my routine, so glad that process is a thing of the past.
Pretty much my whole life! I dont think I need it and hate stuff on my face. Only thing I've used was mascara and eye liner but at work my boss would yell at me still that I should wear make up and wear designer jeans lol. Nope... My last boyfriend said I didnt need make up. :-D
