How important is it for me to track my calories and nutrients? I've been very resistant to doing it; it seems like a lot of work. I did it before in terms of weighing and measuring my food for another diet because of calorie restriction.
I've been doing this intuitively so far. Anyone not do it for a long time, then start and learn something important?
I started out tracking food intake, but soon stopped because it reminded me of my old ED mentality :-/
I started again because I was having cravings. What I learned was that a) I tend to undereat when not tracking and b) seeing the micronutrient breakdown causes me to try and seek out more variety. For example, I make sure that I occasionally have a brazil nut kernel or two to get my selenium intake up. Now, I don't track every day, but every now and then, I track for a few days to see if I'm still on track.
You might try tracking food intake on cronometer for like a week or two just to check if you are eating enough and covering all nutrient bases. If everything is fine and you are not having cravings or other issues, then you probably won't need to track all the time.
Good point about the variety.
I resisted weighing my food at first in the begginning but I got to the point where I wanted to make sure I was eating enough calories so I wanted to see how much I was eating. I learned at first I was under eating way moare then I would ever guess. So then I started to weigh and I don't weigh stuff thinking of calorie restriction I eat freely weigh the food as I go. Take notes on all the different measurements when I am full I add it up and see what I ate. And at first I started to insure I was eating enough. That was a healthy mindset to weigh not an ED mindset. So change you thinking of it and you wont mind. I actually like it now because it satisfies my curiosity. Some days I don't even add up the weights to see how much I ate but I have it noted if I want to go back to it. I like measuring my food to see how much I eat. So I can determine what my body is needed and see the effects. I kinda just want to know for knowledge what calorie level my body feels best at. But I never restrict. I eat as my appetite dictates and afterwards I figure out how much it was.
Sometimes I plug it into cronometer just to see how I am doing on nutrients but it is a periodic check these days. At first it was daily.
I like how you've used it to determine what amount of calories you thrive with. thanks for the feedback
