With my surplus watermelon juice ;)

watermelon juice? really?! how does that work?

I don't, would try it though :)

with EcoBalls. And mostly at 30 degrees celcius, since I don't smell anymore on 811. Works really well :)

I use 'Ecos" detergent.  I use half the amount it recommends, and it works great.  I could probably use less.  I've read that you don't need any except for things like underwear and socks.  and that was from somebody who was not 811.  The water and agitation is what does all the cleaning.  The soap only assists in breaking the surface tension of the water, or something like that.

On my abs, duh! I actually use a machine. Only use a high efficiency vegan detergent on my undies and socks and bike clothes. No detergent for everything else. Damp dry everything and hang it to humidify mi casa naturally.

http://.smartklean.com/ I use this smartclean laundry ball, it works realy well!

Do you use a washing machine or wash everything by hand? Tips for hand-washing, please!!

get a gallon bucket or something similar, put a lid on it with a hole for a plunger to go through, stick clothes in, stick water in, stick choice of soap-like junk in, stick lid on,  plunge away like it's a blocked toilet.

I would really like to know too. Thanks for starting this discusson. :)

I wonder if those who wash the clothes without a washing machine using anything else but water? I'm a first hand ethical vegan so I'm interested for the reason that I don't want to buy unnecessary toxic products that are not vegan and that have involved animal experimentations.

I've never tried this myself, but friends have posted a recipe to make soap out of horse chestnuts. They say that Indian soapnuts have become so popular that the people who were using them all along can't afford them any more. So they started looking into (local) alternatives.

What they do is crush the chestnuts, put them in water and let the mixture sit for a few hours. They pour the resulting milky liquid through a sieve right into the washing machine. Here's their blog post, with pictures (in German though): http://experimentselbstversorgung.net/auf-zum-waschmittel-sammeln/

I use Seventh Generation products. They are very sustainable and safe.
