For years I never knew how many calories a day I was eating. Just ate until I was full. Now after some research, I'm impressed and baffled as to how anyone can eat that much. I struggle to get more than 1000. Interested in hearing other raw vegans' stories. Keep in mind, I'm trying to gain weight (preferably muscle).
I can't even eat 3 bananas alone...bleh. I don't really like bananas all that much. I like it in smoothies with other fruit & flavorings, or as ice cream via my juicer, but straight up - not so much. Blending them with water makes them a lot more platable for sure. I can drink a 10-banana smoothie although I don't enjoy it & it makes me feel fairly bloated. I usually stick with 7 max since I split my meals down into 6 smaller 700-calorie meals throughout the day - still a lot to ingest all at once, but that's only about 2/3 of a 10-banana smoothie, so it's not as bad.
Blended bananas tastes alot better for me than eating regular bananas. It is like drinking a delicious milkshake without the milk!
I think 7-8 bananas and 200g of fresh dates makes a perfect smoothie, and well over 1000 cals too :)
plus you can change it up by adding different stuff....a little variety can be good especially when starting out.
It's not the water. just the fact that you're not sitting there chewing a kilo of bananas. Give it a try. Some people have a very different experience, and they don't find that it helps, but others can really kick up their caloric intake by blending some (or most) of their fruit.
Thanks Bart. Even though I'm a long time raw vegan, I rarely ever blended fruits and veggies. Gonna buy a blender to see how my body likes it.
Slurping is quicker than chewing:) I do like to chew some banana while making my smoothies, I think it's good for digestion, I don't think we were made to drink all our calories. But I still drink quite a few. 1000 a day anyhow.
Definitely. I've found that my stomach does better if I start out with a solid food for my first meal, something like eating dates or mangos, rather than a smoothie, because otherwise (TMI warning) my bowel movements are complete mush & not fun. And if I do 2 smoothies in one day, I make sure the second one in the afternoon or evening has greens in it - seems to help hold things together in my gut.
but chewing better for digestion, I think.
