30 Bananas a Day!

Hi all,

For years I never knew how many calories a day I was eating. Just ate until I was full. Now after some research, I'm impressed and baffled as to how anyone can eat that much. I struggle to get more than 1000. Interested in hearing other raw vegans' stories. Keep in mind, I'm trying to gain weight (preferably muscle).

Thanks!

Lol!

Yeah, us swimmers have big stomachs. They're empty pits (black holes, perhaps more correctly speaking), regardless of the diet we eat. Definitely not a disadvantage on 80/10/10, haha.

BWAAHAHAHHA

Good point! I prefer non-dried fruit. Of course I eat raisons and dates but I'd rather have  water in my fruit. I once went to a middle eastern market that had fresh dates and I tried some. OMG. I'm curious as to why they are not usually sold that way in the U.S. I guess bananas, plantains and mangoes can get me there.

Yes- it's takes a concerted effort to maintain that much ripe fruit.  It's like you need a fruit nanny or something.  But after a while it comes second nature to always be on the lookout for fruit deals and to keep stocked.  Always good to have back up in case you don't/cant (i.e. I have organic grapejuice and raisins on hand during low fruitage times)

Today I started with a honeydew and now I'm enjoying a 10 banana-blackberry smoothie.  I have a watermelon and dates for later and garden veg to round it out.  I always keep cases of dates and blueberries in my freezer, though i know fresh is best.

Thanks Mary. I like the idea of a fruit nanny! Until I find one,I'll keep stock of melons. I'm mostly a simple eater- no fancy recipes. Now I have to get a blender to try some smoothie ideas. Always something more to buy!

You don't have to buy a blender (and if you do buy one it doesn't have to be a ninja, I get by fine with a $35 Oster) but it sure makes getting in a lot of calories easier.

Most people starting out like to make calorie dense smoothies. I'll usually have one with at least 1000 calories a day. usually the morning. I like to have 8-10 bananas or 10-15 dates.

I have this problem too. I tried eating all sorts of fruit but always get sick of it. I can manage about 100g of dates at a time (268kcal) or about 3 bananas (309kcal) or 400g of mango (280kcal) separately. I tried eating bananas and dates one time and managed to get a 500kcal meal, but felt sick afterwards and was forcing it in anyway. I always think I can eat a lot of THAT fruit, but am always proved wrong. For example I thought I could eat a lot of mangoes, but even those I got sick of after 400g or so (I had a kg on my plate!).

Yep. I'm trying watermelons now to see if I can get more calories. I think some people may not be able to handle all that sugar without something else to balance it out-like greens. I don't know if there's any science to back that up-just my experience.

Banana smoothies!  for me, drinking a 10 banana smoothie is do-able.  Eating 10 bananas in a single meal is all but impossible.  with medium bananas that's just under a 1000 cals in just one meal.  I hear you though. For some people, eating lots of cals is just difficult.  I'm one of those people.

This. 10 bananas plus water is easier than just 10 bananas alone? Is it the water balancing out the sugar?
