30 Bananas a Day!

How do I respond when a meat eater says cellulose is indigestable?

I've heard it before and just heard it again today... any links/info would be appreciated. Thanks.

You should tell them they're kinda right.  We don't digest most of it.
Tell them its called fiber and is good for you.
Just give them a "cookie" and congratulate them for making such a bold observation. LOL. It's true and it is a reason why fruits and veg are so GOOD for us! Cellulose is indigestible, in the dietary world these foods that contain cellulose are called insoluble fibers. Our body uses all of the fruit/veg enzymes, transports the nutrients during digestion (mostly takes place in the intestines) to our blood and areas of our bodies that need specific nutrients. The insoluble fibers are then passed through the intestine, taking along other debris with them (cleaning us out)...then made into glorious poop! Hooray for cellulose!!!

I have never heard this as an argument against a plant based diet. Anyway, here area couple articles about it. http://www.ehow.com/list_7316466_foods-contain-cellulose_.html  /  http://www.raw-food-health.net/listofvegetables.html#axzz1SzuhDlzc  /  http://rawschool.com/best-raw-foods/

You could ask them why if it is so bad for you, many companies are adding it their foods now. Check this out.  http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cellulose/MY01762

I hope this helps you out a little. :)

The argument is valid. But there is a remedy to this: Eat more, juice your greens.

Tell him it is digestable, because it may not be assimilated and used, but like they said, it had it's use still, intestinal bulk and fiber that will not rot and putrify in our gut from sitting and sticking in... sorry, i have to stop before i ...blehh
