My home state of Iowa, (U.S.) has an annual cycling event that i love. About 10K-20K riders show up each year, and it is the oldest and largest ride of it's kind.
The route changes every year, but it always crosses Iowa from West to East, in 7 days. This year is 418 miles!
The ride is a lot of fun. It's great because of the welcoming atmosphere that the rural Iowans bring to the table. There are a lot of great amenities that are available on a ride like this. There are bike mechanics, bike parts vendors, masseuses, and food vendors that follow the ride. The food is varied, not all stuff i'd eat, but there is usually plenty of fruit available.
I have signed up, but all of my friends that i was planning on bringing have cancelled for various reasons. I will be riding this ride alone.
I'm just wondering if anyone else is doing this ride this year? I don't want to go alone! I will, but i'd rather have someone to ride with.
Here is a quick vid about the ride:
Wish I was in the area it sounds like a lot of fun!
When is it this year? There is a chance I might be able to do it, I'm in Davenport btw. People who did RAGBRAI always enjoyed it:)
Last full week of July. It's already past registration point for full week riders, but you can still get individual days. That would be perfect for you if it ended in Davenport! It ends in Guttenburg this year.
