I want to begin by saying that I am not trying to take advantage of others (although I am, obviously, asking for charity). But I would greatly, greatly appreciate any help. Even if you just want to donate a few cents, it would make an amazing difference to me.
In order to gain valuable, international experience for my future, I have my heart set on traveling to Costa Rica this summer with the Cross-Cultural Solutions Teen Volunteer Abroad program (you can read the description at crossculturalsolutions.org) for two weeks. I am sixteen, and my family, like so many others, is in a financial squish. Thankfully, we are at least able to keep our house and have enough food to eat and afford air-conditioning and water, unlike many worldwide who do not have these luxuries. More than anything, I desire to help those people and make a positive change in this world.
If I had the amazing opportunity to take this trip, I would be able to help a community in need, as well as help grow sustainability and health in that community. Of course, as a teenager, I have to stick with the group volunteer program for the most part, and I have no previous solid experience, but I promise that I will do all that I can to help. I am also searching to increase my cultural and worldly understanding, and to prepare myself for the Peace Corp, which I am considering joining after university.
In addition to out-right asking for donations from this insanely loving and supporting community, I would also be willing to offer any services or goods in exchange. Right now, I can only think of a few things that I would be able to give: a hand-knitted blanket (ask me for a picture if you're interested), all sorts of books that I own and was going to sell online, some jewelry (including a few hemp and string bracelets, beads, and tamarind bracelets that I make--again, ask me for pictures if you're interested), and other objects lining my shelves, including eco-friendly decor like a lizard made out of up-cycled aluminum cans, a cow piggy bank, elephant poo paper, eco-friendly notebooks, and a very nice wooden jewelry box that I never use, as well as a few little bowls and vases. These are all little gifts that I've gathered over time, and I adore them but it would feel good to pass them on to others and know that I am gaining the experience of a lifetime.
If you would like to donate, please email me for a PayPal account to donate to or for my address, to mail your donation. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Every penny is generous and is appreciated!
Peace, Love, and delicious fruit to you all,
I just wanted to bump up this post before I completely abandon it. (:
