I have a friend who just had to have her gallbladder removed, and during the surgery her doctors made some disturbing discoveries. She has inflammation (which she says she feels the pain all the time), imbalanced gut flora, and some hemorrhoids. They also said she might be developing cancer. On top of that, she has thyroid issues. She's extremely worried about her health and it's making her depressed. What kind of advice should I give her? I know there are highly effective natural cancer fighting foods out there, but I'm not too learned on that topic. Does anyone have any ideas on how she can regain her health? Her diet is pretty bad, and I've been encouraging her to change it but she struggles with cravings and binges (she used to have bulimia before she lost her gag reflex) and her parents aren't supportive of changing her diet. Advice? I'm worried about her :( 19 years old is too young to be worrying about so many health issues.
I would have her watch forks over knives. Tell her that you want to watch a movie with her, and that you want her to watch it because you care about her. It's not so much about applying foods that "fight" cancer, as it is removing the foods that cause cancer(meat, dairy, oils, chemical preservatives etc..). Raw Vegan/RT4 is best for those who are healthy, and unhealthy alike. She needs the same things we all do: lots of clean water, fresh ripe fruit meals, fresh veggies, sunshine, exercise, good rest, emotional poise. Only she can make these changes, but you can offer to guide her down the right path. You can be her light house in the fog. :)
Buy Ruth Heidrich's books, they are all good but Senior Fitness is my favorite, mistitled really because anyone can benefit from the info. in there. She was a fit runner and thought she was eating healthfully with her "low fat" chicken and such but then came down with breast, bone and lung cancer. She had a double mastectomy as a preventative but since she was a scientist she researched chemo and radiation "therapy" the Docs offered her and decided she did not want to do those. So she signed up for the McDougall cancer research program and ate low fat vegan cooked and reversed her cancers and her osteoporosis and lots of other things too. After ten years she started eating all raw and now 23+ years later she is still all raw and cancer free and a daily runner and as a 70something year old she has the bone density of a 30 year old.
+1 to everything Chris and Ednshell said.
I'd help her start off with some really great smoothies. She'd be getting in lots of water to help stop stone formation and would be getting lots of nutrients to start healing her body. Plus being full of smoothies helps to stop the cravings for junk food.
