Hey everyone! Just call me Kiwii, everyone back home does :) I got my nickname because I LOVE Kiwi fruits, but I have a love for all fruits and more and more veggies as I experiment. I'm new to this lifestyle, very new. I don't come from a background of severe calorie restricting, but I'm sure I was to some extents (not eating when I was hungry, skipping breakfast, etc). I am very gluten intolerant, and cannot eat most processed foods due to a sensitivity to many of the preservatives within them. I started a clean diet January this year that included trying to go low calorie, higher fat and proteins. I worked out 5-6 days a week from anywhere between 20-80 minutes, and I didn't lose a single pound (while I do know my body shape was changing I wasn't convinced by my progress).
Enter my youtube search for a new lifestyle to fold into my life. When I found the raw lifestyle I was very interested, but skeptical. I have a undying love for cooking and food, something I only recently began to unfold within myself, and it saddened me to no end to think raw was the way to go, that was, until I found freelee's channel. Raw till 4. The concept seemed so bizarre at first but even after the first controversial video I saw, I couldn't stop watching her uploads. I watched more and more, and finally one day I was convinced. I don't have to give up cooking, I don't have to give up on baking, but I do need to start getting creative.
My biggest challenge here in Massachusetts is the weather. It is cold much of the year, and the growing season is short. Fruit is sparse and exotic fruit is beyond expensive. I would love to know if anyone else is from the Western Massachusetts area, or even just the NorthEast USA? My other major obstacle is my husband is allergic to all strains of pollen enzymes and all the resulting fruits and vegetables. This makes it beyond difficult to keep to a raw till 4 lifestyle (right now its more raw for breakfast and snack). Only way to get him to safely eat is through cooking, and so he needs more cooked food readily available for his whole day.
I'm very excited to be a part of this community and to continue learning about this new lifestyle, lose some weight, and make myself healthier in the process.
Hey my college roommate lives in Phili! Small world. Yeah that's pretty close :) Baking and cooking is my LOVE. It's been a challenge since I found out about the gluten intolerance though, but I've found a chocolate coconut cookie that is to DIE for that I can't help but indulge in sometimes. :)
He's not currently, but I don't want to get too far into that aspect because I know its against the terms for the forum. I assure you we limit it as much as possible (we've gotten down to 2-3 times a week for dinner) and what we do buy is sourced as locally and responsibly as possible.
hey i am from great barrington, although i live in Northampton now.
