30 Bananas a Day!

the debate: I want to get my greens in (actually, I want to go all fruit, but that doesn't seem to work as well for me as I want it to, so I think I need to go greens for awhile), and am debating the best way to do so. I enjoy both the smoothie and the juice, but I'm uncertain about where it best fits in to my day in terms of food combining, and which is more highly preferable.

I feel like I need to get these liquified greens in as early as possible - water, green beverage, then start on my breakfast. but my breakfast is watermelon for at least 2 more months! so if I have green juice before watermelon, that seems to be an ok combination in my mind, but a green smoothie seems like it would take longer and would combine less well. both are essentially the same thing: juice of 2 oranges, 5-6 stalks of celery, 2-3 large handfuls of spinach, but for the smoothie I add in 2 bananas and don't strain out the pulp. I add a lot of water to both.

opinions? thoughts? anyone had any experiences with juice working better than smoothies or vice-versa? and how do you order your day - where does your green beverage fit in?

I recommend green smoothies for a nutrient-boosted delicious filling meal. I find when I drink one in the morning, I don't need to eat again until 3 p.m. Green juice on the other hand is delicious and packed with nutrients too, but not as filling, because it is without the fiber and perhaps not as much nutrients since it has been strained (unlike the smoothie where the entire fruit and green leaves are blended) I find. So if you want the juice as a start to your day followed by your breakfast of watermelon, no problem. If you want it as a meal alone, then I would go with the smoothie. The only way I would say otherwise is if you blend the ingredients without straining them and use water to bring it down to the texture of a juice, and drink all of it, because then you would still get all the nutritional benefits while still consuming the whole fruit and greens that were added. This is just my opinion and based on my personal experience of course.
tender young leafy greens go with all fruit, except watermelon, and any melon even cukes should be eaten alone, so take it from there for best digestion. If it doesnt bother you then that is your choice, but if your concerned to have the best digestion, have your watermelon first and alone, later on you can make a smoothie of your favorite fruit of the day with tender young greens like spinach or romaine or bib, something not to bitter, you dont have to eat tons of greens if your digestion is good ,you will get all your need met just by eating what your body tells it likes for that day, not to worry.... happy eating.
Have you ever thought of a green juice "fast"? It means, for instance, tomato juice for one week or so. It really helps cleaning the system!
Juices are better than smoothies IMO, because they do not contain fibre, so the digestive system is not involved and the nutrients are equally absorbed: the juice is the true essence of the plants. If you have a good juice extractor, they are one of the best supplement ever.
Starting the day with something "green" gives you all the minerals necessary to balance the state of acidity started with the night's cleaning process, so maybe you should try!
And for the best combinations, I think no more than 3 vegetables are to be combined together, whether in smoothies, juices or salads.

try both and see what works. I barf at green smoothies because they are so utterly and completely gross after having them too much for too many years. Anything blended = gross. In Calgary where I live, the greens are gross, and I eat very little greens if I don't juice. Did that for a few months, body NOT liking it. Started juicing, works great.
When I"m in the US etc. I can eat greens plain and have taste orgasms, they just don't taste the same up here.

So, try both, and see what works for you. I DEFINITELY DEFINITELY have felt more benefits from green juices vs. green smoothies. I mean not even COMPARABLE.
