30 Bananas a Day!

Where do I begin? I am in search of a good pair of jogging shoes. Probably not the five finger ones. I just saw Freelee's video on bikini body tips and the idea of jogging every second day really resonates with me. The last pair I tried when I took up running for the first time gave me arch spasms. I don't have a high arch but I guess I need sufficient support. Looking for suggestions. This would be road jogging mostly. Thank you

I love the Brooks Ghost!  I have the Brooks Pure Cadence too and I'm not so crazy about them because I can't go fast in them.  They are good for taking short steps though.  I had the Brooks Ravenna 2 before and I liked them too.

Thank you for the tip on Brook's Ghost. I'll check those out once I'm back in the States. I'm eager to get fitted for a new shoe!

I would go to a specialty store to at least get fitted for your specific foot.  They will look at how you run and if you pronate at all and then they will be able to recommend the best type of shoe for you and then go about trying on different pairs of the same type for comfort. For example, I have a very flat foot and pronate quite a bit so I need a very stable shoe. I used to use the Asics Gel Kayano but have made the switch to the Brooks Pure Cadence which is a lot lighter and more comfortable for me.

Anyway, RoadRunner is great store if you have one in your area.  If not, then just search for a running store. You will probably be looking at spending 100-200 dollars.

Hope that helps!

Check out my blog:  eatcleanvegan.blogspot.com

my favorite at the moment are inov8 bare x 180 they are very thin barefootshoe only 4 mm sole.

eat feels like running on clouds, in fact all barefoot shoes do compared to convensional runningshoes.

i have read articles where they say the cheaper shoes the less injury you will have, mostly because the cheaper they are the less cushion there is.

I have been healing injurys with this way of running, so I will definetly recommend you to buy a pair of barefoot shoes.

Vivo Barefoot are my absolute favourites, will not buy any other shoes again ;) They are made very responsible (recycled materials, ...), have a super thin barefoot sole, many of them are vegan - and do look quite stylish. Not only for running, for everyday use. Your feet will love it.

Check out altrazerodrop.com all of the shoes are vegan, have zero drop and the toe box is shaped like a foot. I have the instincts and they are the best running shoes I have tried.

If you youtube running shoe fitting or what running shoe should I buy there are a TON of resources.

It basically boils down to your arch support and quality of shoe. If you take the sole of the shoe and bend it backwards there should be some play. The amount of play distinguishes a flat footed person from a high arch (more play equals less support).

You can do a couple tests as well. Visually inspect your foot (with the help of someone else) to see if you have a high arch or not so much. There is also a paper test where you lay out some cardboard or paper and take a few steps over it (if there is a huge foot print your flat footed, thinner the foot print equals higher arch).

Hope that helps in some way :D

I know that there are quite different opinions about barefoot shoes. Here is mine:

Comparing barefoot shoes to conventional shoes is a lot like comparing LFRV to conventional food. Why? The simple underlying question is: what is the most natural way to run / walk? Of course it is barefoot. So running barefoot is the best choice, using barefoot shoes the second best (that you will have to chose if you run on unnatural surfaces). And as LFRV is not a question of body type, barefoot shoes are not a question of foot type.

Not only your feet will love it, your whole body will adept new, more natural, motion patterns. And the increased ground contact can give you another feeling of conectedness with your surrounding.

Thank you for all of the advice everyone.  I ended up going with a pair of New Balance Minimus Zero running shoes.  The company partnered with Vibram and developed these shoes and they are like running barefoot AND they're banana colored!!!!  I've used them twice and they're real nice!
