fruit juice that can be kept for more than very few hours definitely is not raw so you might as well eat the cooked rice or yams!
me i would prefer to fast for the night but of course if you should get in danger than to eat something worse you'd better take the rice (or potatoes).
I think you mean flash pasteurized. Flash Pasteurizing > 70C or 158 degrees F for 20 seconds is usually how they get the fruit juice to keep longer. It's not as damaging as cooking as you still retain most of the vitamins and you'll have reduced damage from oxidation over cooking. Fresh is better but flash pasteurizing would be an intermediary step compared to all out cooking.
I'd go buy some dates if I was out, but usually I have a case in the frig.
Just eat the yams or rice. Cooking might kill some of the vitamins and nutrients but eating starch is better than starving.
Also many people that eat dates don't realize that at least in America the majority of them are dried at >160 degrees and are actually cooked. If fruit has a label and the vitamin C = 0% then it's cooked as they dried them in temps that cooked them and killed the vitamin C. Fresh fruits rarely ever have nutritional labels on them.
you can test your dates for rawness/aliveness by putting a piece in hydrogen peroxide and if it bubbles, it is raw. So far, I have found the pitted ones to be "cooked" and the non-pitted still raw.
