I'm curious as to what you guys think about the germ theory of disease. A lot of the raw teachers I've read claim that it is just that- a theory. The body gets sick when it has a healing crisis. But.... if that is the case.... why are colds contagious?
A little over a week ago I started to get cold/flu like symptoms- sore throat, headache, buckets of mucus. I figured that it was a detox symptoms, as I recently made the committment to 100% raw with no overt fats. But then, one of my co-workers got sick. Then the other one did! This made me think that maybe I was sick from an outside bacteria or virus. My coworkers were each sick for only 2 or 3 days and then they were fine. I, however, have been sick for about 10 days now. Usually I have a great immune system and I get over things really quickly. So I'm thinking that maybe my body is in a weakened state because it is busy detoxing and so it is not as capable to kick these bugs out of me. What do you guy?
Also, what do you think about the germ theory of disease in general?
This is a great question. I am exposed to people who are constantly sick with east coast (US) flu bugs and I never ever get sick. I've only had a cold/flu less than a handful of times my entire life. I'm pretty sure it's because when I was a child I thought being sick was disgusting so I never allowed myself to get sick, therefore I never did, or do. It doesn't much matter what I'm exposed to - my mind is the master of my body. My mother taught me this. It works. Theorize that. : )
Thinking about it further, I have made a habit of washing my hands often, esp in public places when I've been touching door handles, etc. And I make sure to stay hydrated and rested when I am around sick people. Those little things make all the difference.
I dated this guy once who claimed that he never gets sick. He specifically said, "I don't get sick." All definitively like that. When I laughed at him he replied, "That's what I tell myself and it works."
To this day I have yet to see him come down with something, even when everyone around him has.
WAUW, WAUW ... It doesn't much matter what I'm exposed to - my mind is the master of my body. My mother taught me this. It works. Theorize that. : )
Wiki excerpt about the Spanish Flu. I bet these people had wished there was no such thing as germs.
"The global mortality rate from the 1918/1919 pandemic is not known, but an estimated 10% to 20% of those who were infected died. With about a third of the world population infected, this case-fatality ratio means 3% to 6% of the entire global population died. Influenza may have killed as many as 25 million people in its first 25 weeks. Older estimates say it killed 40–50 million people, while current estimates say 50—100 million people worldwide were killed. This pandemic has been described as "the greatest medical holocaust in history" and may have killed more people than the Black Death. It is said that this flu killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. "
I found this video on the germ theory any good?
I think if you get really healthy you should be immune to most types of sickness. I am not saying that a totally raw/healthy person could drink a glass of Ebola and be fine though.
