when i buy dates with the pits in them and i encounter a insect infested one i wipe them out with my finger including most of the crap.. though most of the time i buy pitted dates which i soak overnight, but i haven't check them for bugs.. so i'm definitely eating bugs.. sometimes 1 or 2 float in the water, which i take out ofcourse, but i'm certainly blending some..
As far as gas is concerned i don't notice anything.. maybe you eat nuts or other fats or so too short before or after. (within 3 hours after or so)
Yeah the dates I buy are not pitted... I don't think they are available where I live any other way. Personally, I can't seem to get passed it. It disgusts me to no end and after I've blended them and they're ready to drink, I just can't help but keep thinking about how many bugs I might be eating. :(
Also, couldn't the bugs be bad for us to eat?
if you pit them yourself you are cleaning them out yourself so why do you worry about drinking them?
as far as being bad, it's not like you're eating a bug steak.
I sometimes get a small stomachache from dates - I was actually about to search for this on this site when I saw your post! This happens even if I soak the dates all night. I'm not sure if it's okay, but the pain is never really bad and it doesn't last long.
Yeah, that's true. Yesterday it lasted some hours for me tbh! But once it goes away it's gone for good haha. Have you ever noticed weird things inside of your dates like tiny black stuff or worms? This makes it really discouraging for me to eat them! Now I frantically check each of them and rinse a bunch before eating, and the ones I do find with weirdness on the inside, I just cannot get myself to eat!!
I've noticed dates go bad (so, they're super dry or black inside), but never worms. I just throw away ones that seem suspicious, though.
Have you tried to drink it really slow and thoroughly mix every sip with saliva? This should help to break down the carbs and thus make it easier for your digestive system :)
I actually did that today and found that it made a really huge difference! Have either of you experienced the tiny black things inside the dates, or even worse, worms?!
So glad to hear that! :) I have never had little worms in my dates *knock on wood* but I remember that last Christmas there was some issues about it in the news. They imported whole tun (or something) of dates filled with these bugs. They had to take it from shops. So, I wouldn´t eat it if I were you and maybe you could go to the shop where you bought it and tell them. :) But! You could always eat it and finally have that PROTEIN that every vegan lacks :D :D :D Hehe... :)
Yup, dates alone for me leave me feeling awful for days, so with banana its an even bigger disaster, I knew from the get go that banana and dates meal would be too good to be true for me, so I dont do datorades.
And no I never found anything wrong in my dates but I had a dried one that was clearly fermented tasted like rancid ash and I had just poor quality ones but if I had bugs I didn't see them.
