Just joined, and this is my first post. Go easy.
What are everyone's thoughts on putting toppings on fruit?
- Raw organic sugar
- Hershey's syrup (which I believe is vegan)
- Honey (I know, not technically vegan)
Just wondering what everyone does to keep things interesting, especially if you're eating the same foods all of the time. Thanks.
Welcome SPSP to 30BaD!
The examples you are giving are very refined and unhealthy for the human body and should be avoided.
How to make your meals more interesting is by choosing organic fruits before conventional and learn which ones that also taste really good. You can also look in the recipe section of the forum how to do some dishes. In time your taste buds won't be so numb down from our past history of food/condiments choices and simple whole ripe organic fresh fruits will taste delicious.
And just a reminder, anything that's not vegan isn't an option from the beginning.
If you eat ripe fruit there's no need for a topping.
The fruit is sweet enough.
Sometimes I top fruit chucks with a smoothie. The smoothie acts as a topping.
All of the sweetners mentioned above are highly refined and of little nutritional value.
Fruit is sweet enough on it's own in the vast majority of cases, you shouldn't need to add anything to it to make it more 'interesting'. I'd say if you're getting a wide enough variety of fruit then you're not going to become bored of it if that's what your main worry is.
However I know some people add things like date sauce (blended dates/water) or shredded coconut (wouldn't recommend going overboard on this because of the fat content) to certain fruits so those might be options if you have to have some kind of topping.
The only thing I ever put on top of fruits that I eat is a raw tomato sauce I have on top of zucchini pasta.
There are so many fruits around, how can it be boring! And they should be sweet enough without added refined sugars! :)
fruit is sweet and delicious! why alter it?
just because the sugar is raw and organic does not mean it's good for you...it's still processed sugar and i wouldn't eat if you paid me. hershey's syrup is processed crap (i'm sorry, i'm trying to go easy) and i stay away from caffeine, which is in chocolate, at all costs. i'm an ex-coffee addict and it wrecked havoc on my life. plus caffeine is classified as a drug.
honey is bee vomit. google it, i dare you.
and i'm not eating the same foods all the time! i love love love love love food more than i ever did when i was eating a SAD (standard american diet)
as you transition, your taste buds totally change. just wait - it's amazing.
Thanks for the tips.
I just bought Freelee's "Go Fruit Yourself" and plan on reading up for some motivation.
