Hey, everyone! I'm pretty new to 8/1/1, been doing it almost 2 months now, and just had a few questions about fruit combining/compatibility. How are we supposed to know which fruits are compatible or not? What are some repercussions if not combined properly? Lately I've heard quite a bit about mono-fruit meals, but still don't understand 100%.
I guess the simple answer is your stomach will tell you how well foods combine. For optimal digestion I think mono meals are great but I rarely eat them. Most sweet fruits combine well with others, bananas, dates, mangoes grapes etc. The general consensus is that melons don't mix well with any other friuit since they digest so quickly, also acid fruits are best eaten alone such as oranges and pineapples. Everyone's a bit different so you only really find out by experimenting. I always make sure I start a meal with the most juicy fruit and move on to more dense stuff like bananas and dates. Good luck and enjoy!
Also, if you have a smart phone you can download the app food combo. It's awesome and has really helped me understand why my stomach was in so much pain before when I just mixed everything together. Good luck!
acid fruits (oranges, pineapples, tomatoes, etc) don't combine well with sweet fruits (bananas, dates, etc)
sub acid fruits (strawberries, blueberries, apples, mangoes, raspberries, grapes) combine well with either acid fruits or sweet fruits but NOT both at the same time.
melons are best eaten alone.
hard to digest veggies are best eaten with other veggies and greens, not fruit
and leafy greens and celery combine well with anything (except melons)
Alright, thanks, guys! :) The first couple weeks following 8/1/1 were a little uncomfortable, but my digestion has improved substantially. Thanks for the tips on combining!
