30 Bananas a Day!

I have frozen bananas both ways (whole and in 1/4 pieces); but, they always seem to stick together into a clump or get a lot of "ice" on them.

I use "freezer" plastic bags.

How do you recommend freezing bananas?

Thanks for any tips!!    :-)

I freeze them exactly like you do. The ice depends on how much time they are spending in the freezer. Try to eat them faster. lol

What about them sticking together?  Do you just let them thaw a bit to use them?

Funny about eating them faster!   :-)    I was thinking it was the "freezer bag."

I have tried both freezer bags and a big plastic container with lid. I usually put them in whole but have tried in thirds...either way they always stick together and there is always ice on them. It has been easier to break them apart when they are in smaller pieces. I usually just use a butter knife or fork to pry the whole ones apart.

This is good to hear this -- I kept thinking there was some "trick" to doing it.  So, it sounds like I'm doing it correctly.

Thanks to you and Paty for the replies!

If I need to freeze them more than just over night I don't peel them. I stick the whole bunch of bananas in the freezer. They eventually turn brown on the outside, but I peel them with a knife and they're completely fine (and tasty) on the inside.

I put my peeled bananas in a large container and separate each layer with baking paper. I can fit about 6-8 bananas per layer and 3 layers high. I try not to use platic freezer bags because they can't be reused after I have finished with them. I usually have to tear through them to get the nanas out. The bananas in each layer will stick together, but I always defrost them a little before using anyway and this usually helps with separation.

I freeze em in the skin.

They'll defrost in the sink in a few hours, or within a few minutes in a bowl of water.  Slip right out of their skins, they will, easy peasy!

I freeze them in a single or double (depending on how many I'm doing) layer on a tray overnight.  In the morning, they're easy to break apart and I can stick them in freezer bags.  If you do it that way, they barely stick together.

Please do not use an innumerable amount of plastic bags you plan on discarding.  At least grab some Tupperware.  I just peel, break in half, and lay on a plate.

It's very easy to wash and reuse freezer bags, and, being flexible, you can fit more bananas in them than a rigid container.

I use ziploc freezer bags.

Peel the nanas, freeze them whole on a tray so they don't stick to each other, then transfer to a large ziploc bag once frozen. I put a straw down the side of the bag and close the zip tight against the straw, then suck as much air out as I can, then quickly remove the straw and seal the bag. Before blending I snap each banana in half or thirds.

I use the exact same method, and for all fruit too like berries. I never tried the straw trick, but thanks for the time. Imma totally try that next time!
