I have some questions about fats and children.
First is, what are the best fats. I know that Durianrider is kind of anti-nut and I'm not really lucky enough to be able to get some of the more fattening fruits, that I know of anyway. I have flax seeds, which I grind fresh and hemp hearts as well (which I just watched a durian video and he was lumping hemp hearts with nuts and saying they're not raw.)
My kids are getting to be a bit older, almost 9 and 11 and I'm wondering if they still need a higher amount of fats. I know that all babies and children need higher amounts of fats throughout the period of time that they should be breastfeeding (probably at least 3-5 years or so) But does anyone know about this? They are obviously still growing a lot and very active and they have lost some weight on this diet. I'm very particular about their foods, but I don't want a lot of people telling me they're getting skinny!
Anyone know when to cut fats down and how much? And the best sources? I know greens have omega threes, but I don't know if that's enough. I feel like there should be something tasty for them, besides flax on their oats or corn grits. Thanks in advance!
I used to like peanut butter a lot as a kid and I wonder too if we do need more fats at that age
Was I rightly attracted to it ? or just hungry ?
What's the deal, seriously? I used to eat a ton of nuts too, they seem to be very addicting or maybe the body likes the raw fats in them and wants you to keep eating so you can fatten up during the winter?
Yeah I mean our bodies are naturally attracted to high calorie sources so we can stay alive in the wild, and that hasn't really been evolved out of us yet, IMO
I know the brain stops growing each year, but its definitely still growing for a while, which is what really needs all the fat... They say it doesn't really grow but it doesn't stop developing until our twenties, but I have no idea if this means anything for fat consumption... Was hoping someone knew! lol
Give your kids flax seeds, sunflower seeds and avocados for their fat intake. Keep it balanced, growing kids need carbs, protein and fat from plant sources!
Awesome. I have sunflower seeds right now and was getting low on nuts. I heard durian's video and thought okay I can cut back on the nuts bc I was letting them have a freefor all when they wanted, but yes, these all three are perfect. Thanks for reminding me! Derp! lol
maybe u should get in touch with Karen Ranzi . She is (imo) expert when it comes to kids/their needs and raw-food.
she also wrote a really good book. And recently a recipe Book with super awesome recipes for kids.
And thank you very much! I will be doing this!
