Ive been hounding Leah to share her story for months. She felt guilty. I understand that victims do often feel guilty but they should NEVER need to and should share their story so others can learn.
Goes to Costa Rica to get healthy. Pays BIG money to attend. Almost dies. No f#cks given by foodnsport.com. No refunds either.
doug and grant have denied this event ever happened and have refused to acknowledge it over the last few months. We feel very disappointed in both of them. We expected better from people who claim to have 'highest standards of integrity'.
go to bed mate :). Let's hope many would be fasters see this video :)
Truly shocking how malnourished she looks in the video footage she showed from her fast.
wow and doug even tried to hide the truth by getting the girl to lie to the doctors.
What a scum bag
Has anyone started a petition on change.org or something asking Doug to give her a refund?
At least it would draw attention to the issue if nothing else?
Also, this really got to me so I sent them a quick email urging Doug to apply her a refund and here is the response I got from Karen which I assume is an auto response (yes they really compared a fasting retreat to chemo):
Quick question: Does the oncologist give the family a refund if radiation and chemotherapy still result in death from cancer?
Yeah but Doug committed malpractice by not diagnosing her infection - and perhaps infecting her in the first place with unclean water.
So refund and BIG apologies is a must if he had a shred of integrity..
karen is the lady that runs dougs facebook . she i got told doesn't even do vegan , shes the one who got my last scribd taken down because i had a modified version of a food combo chart
Just now had time to watch. I am dumbfounded by Doug's appalling behavior, there is no excuse for it, his ego has run away with him and his common sense is utterly gone!
I can't believe what this young lady went through! Clearly she is a tough lady, has both a strong will and strong intelligence...if this could happen to her it could happen to anyone. Other stories about bad experiences at Doug's water fasting were so vague it was hard to know what to think. But thanks to this young lady so bravely and selflessly telling her story, no one can deny the extreme danger inherent in water fasting in such circumstances as Doug's Costa Rica fasting retreats.
She has my deepest respect, not only for sharing her story, but also for what she went through to stay alive, it was straight up heroic! Thank you DR for encouraging her to share this most crucial story!
Yes, I watched the video with increasing horror. It's your basic nightmare, complete with that five-hour taxi ride during which she dry-reached all the way.
Doug Graham is clearly negligent in failing to properly supervise the fasters at his retreat. You simply can't put people on prolonged fasts without medical checks and proper supervision.
But, as usual, it's the attempted cover-up that really drives the nail into the coffin.
First of all he urges her to remain at the retreat, advice that would have certainly resulted in her death. Then he urges her to lie to her doctors about water fasting, thereby compromising the first chance she had to receive life-saving medical treatment.
Then he insists on a non-disclosure clause as a condition of the refund of the $8,000. (I'll bet it cost her at least three times that before the episode was behind her.)
This is really serious stuff. And to think Mike Arnstein attempted to defend Doug Graham by arguing that people shouldn't criticise him because he has a mortgage to pay!
As DR has often remarked, it's all about the money.
Sorry to hear about your friend. I think she needs to alleviate her stress levels through proper diet, exercise, and relaxation/meditation.
