30 Bananas a Day!

Sorry if this is the wrog place to post this.

The problem is the following:

My mom has  a french bulldog (Eddy). He is epileptic and has to take three pills a day to surpress the attacts. It started with one but he still had cramps so his doctor prescribed an aditional pill...that worked for a while than the attacs came back and he got the thrid.

He is a joyfull and appart from his cramps healthy dog but my mom is stressed out: She worries a lot and doesnt know how to afford all the medicine. She says its just a matter of time until she euthanizes him. :( She might be right that Eddy is suffering too much but...yeah; There must be something we can do!

I suggested just taking him off all the drungs since they dont seem to have any positive effect but the doctor claims he would die in an attac on the spot if we did that...

Any ideas for alternative treatment?

We went through this with our 9 1/2 year old golden retriever.  There are no easy answers.  It is a genetic problem from inbreeding to make the perfect dog.  We did not do the meds since there really was no way to know if they would work or not, they say they help about 50% of the time but everyone's testimony I read said they couldn't tell for sure.  And their dogs would often react to them by stumbling, losing their personality and some almost comatose.

We started giving him a daily sliver of fresh Aloe Vera some pet owners said worked for them.  We read that MSG was often a trigger so I stopped the nutritional yeast I had given him for 2 weeks prior to his first seizure.  I had given the nutritional yeast as a flea solution.  He had fleas for the first time in his life, which may have been his first symptom of illness.  Fleas can also be a trigger for seizures too BTW.

We just happened to have a friend going through the same thing at the same time as us with their poodle.  They did everything the vet told them, they did the MRI to see if there was a brain tumor, which is the most common reason for seizures in dogs.  They then did the surgery to remove the tumor.  The dog had a 50/50 chance of survival from the surgery.  The dog was still herself after the surgery but very slow physically.  They knew it might only buy them a month more with their dog but that is was worth it for them.  We have not seen them in a while but the dog was doing okay a few months after.

We ourselves were dealing with grand mal seizure and he only had them every 4-6 weeks so it was hard to tell what was helping.  In hindsight I wish we would have water fasted him right away after the first seizure.  We had water fasted him for 30 days when he was 4 years old for an ear infection and he did great the entire time, happy and content in every way throughout.  It was very hard to watch him suffer and the after effects of the seizures were hard, he would be disoriented and walk around constantly for a few days.  And then trying to figure out the right thing to do.  He died during a seizure with us there with him.  From the first seizure to the last was 7 months.  Every dog is different, some live for years with the seizures.  I wish you the best and really feel for you!  Feel free to send me a message is you want to talk more about it.
