30 Bananas a Day!

Since apes (Orangutan) consume soil for mineral, I was thinking, can't we do the same? I mean, making a smoothie of soil sure sounds like a very effective way of getting crucial needed minerals. They also consume clay to neutralize toxins, what do you guys think? I'm very curious because that's something I really wanna try.

Ya I think I'll give it a go :), take some soil from my rotting compost of fruits :D

let us know if you fair better than this guy :)

@Alex and WL,

If soil dont work for you, you can try sh&T like this monkey did....good source of b12 I heard...but just a little dab and ...

I started LOLing even before pushing play :D

Great tips below too.

Dont do it.  If a human cant make a meal out of it, it probably aint food.

Individuals who crave soil have a condition called Pica Disorder which often results from malnutrition, disordered eating or a deficiency of some kind.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pica_(disorder)

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001538.htm

It is recommended that anyone craving soil should see a doctor right away and have blood test done to rule out any underlying health problems or psychological issues.

Humans cannot eat pure soil.  Under a microscope, soil actually contains sharp pieces of mineral rocks that can cut the digestive track and or contains harmful bacteria, microbes, and parasites, and or cause obstructions leading up to and including death.

Soils may also be lacking in essential lipids, amino acids, and vitamins like C that humans needs.

Humans thrive when they get their minerals, vitamins, and nutrients from biorganic sources such as fruits, greens, and nuts and seeds.

Peace, PK

I have recently began eating (or rather, drinking) bentonite clay. I began to ease an upset stomach but I have continued for skin benefits and I also thought the mineral content wouldn't hurt! I don't know if this would technically fall into 30bad guidelines... but I feel great doing it! And it is raw (:

You're welcome to do what you will, but FYI it is not something we recommend or will allow to be promoted.  What nutrients do you feel it contains that are unavailable in plant foods?

Silica, iron, iodine, detox.

All of which are readily available in plant foods.

Except for "detox" which is something the body does all on its own every each and every day of our lives.  The fewer complicating factors with which it has to deal, such as ingested dirt, the better job it does for us.

So why apes and other animals do it and do great from doing so?

Who knows?  they also eat each other on occasion.

We aren't "apes and other animals."  We're humans.

And on this site, this segment of humanity will promote and teach how to thrive on a plant-based lifestyle.

Apes also eat their own turds ( as do dogs and many other animals).  However, obviously that is not a practice anyone would suggest as being a good idea for humans.  I put dirt in the same category.
