Guys, I've found it.
I have never been able to find fresh durian, in the shell, in the UK.
I have been able to find it frozen (don't get me wrong, it's delicious) but never the whole fruit.
Last week I found it! I got a whole durian from my local Oriental Supermarket in Chelmsford and oh my goodness it just took me to another level.
It was delicious and perfect and just truly bliss! Pretty cheap too, I bought it for just over £10 and it lasted me 2 days! To be honest, I thought I would be able to eat the whole thing in one but it was super filling and a pretty big durian if you ask me.
This is how real deal durian should look inside. Pure white. If you got a good one, imagine how that durian would have tasted fresh in SE Asia!
99% of frozen imported durian tastes poor to me now after having the real deal experiences in SE Asia. My durian loving friends tend to agree. Come to the festival in Thailand this year and blow your taste budz! :)
Thank you for the reply Durianrider!
That durian looks delicious. I want more now!
I can't even begin to imagine how a fresh one in SE Asia would taste...i'm drooling!
Oh I would seriously love to! I am really thinking about it. It would be an amazing experience for me!
Thank you again (:
Hi Naomi :)
very happy you did find Durian! ;) Most asian supermarkets will have frozen Monthong durian and some even freeze the whole fruit.. You won't find a big difference between the two..
Although you'll see a huge difference if you can get your hands on some Malay varieties of Durian such as D24, D190, XO or the best Mao Shan Wong (aka Musang King).. Once you try those, which you'll never pay just 10£ :( then you'll really fall in love!!
check out these guys.. They've done an amazing job on this website exploring Durians..
Thank you for the reply!
Yeah, that's exactly what I have found. Can always find it frozen in the supermarkets, it is really yummy so I cannot wait to be in Thailand and just gorge!
Thank you for the link, website is incredible!
