"Doug Graham Costa Rica... One women died there when she bit her cheek."

I saw this posted in the GITMR archives.  I hope it's okay to post here.  Just hoping someone could comment on validity of the situation(s)...

"Doug Graham
Costa Rica
Typically only 2 fasts per year.  Sign up online.  $4000 for 16 days.  $10000 for 35 days.  One women died there when she bit her cheek.  Her face swelled up.  Her parents took her to the hospital against the advice of Doug and she died probably from injections or something.  I don't know the whole story, this is what I remember from someone who was there.  This wasn't the only incident. Rave reviews from everyone I've talked to including the guy who saw this tragedy.   Expensive though.

Wait, was she 811lfrv and died from the injections due to her "purity"? I have heard something similar about fainting from vaccines and such.
I'm not sure, Moiraine. I'm trying to find the validity of the stories before opening up the "purity" can of worms.
There was someone who has diabetes, goes into a fast. End up in coma and sues doug.

Yet one doug forms, the person doesn't tick they are diabetic! Asking for trouble!
I wonder how many of those people concern of this incident, should check up on their regular doctor. See how many legal death they took part in?
good point.
Rawgasm, I thought the same thing, especially when Loren Lockman's case was brought to surface. It's amazing what "licensed" physicians can get away with in our society.
They are licensed to kill :)
so true
Well, the way I see it is that fasting can be beneficial, even cure serious ailments. However, it's not without risk.

But, the same can be said of western medicine. How many people die of chemotherapy, prescription drug side effects, even simple vaccines? And, yet, this doesn't make the press. Because in the mainstream world, death is considered a "normal" side effect from certain things.

IMO, it's the same with fasting. Especially if there are pre-existing conditions present or if the person decides to fast while not really knowing anything about the state of their body. I actually think fasting is far safer than some of the western medicine options ... however, it has to be done correctly.

So, while tragic, I suppose I don't really understand why there is surprise when people die in such situations. With any serious treatment like that, there is risk. Who knows what happened in this incident. We don't really know the woman's medical history or why she was fasting in the first place. Or whether it was even the injections that killed her. Could have been something else altogether.

Personally, I've never done any fasts ... mainly because I have no self control. When I'm hungry, I want my food!
When you take a drug during a fast past 4. It is 50 times more potent because of the metabolism.

It's why a lot of simple healthy people die during fever.

If you inject some poison it's going to always be even more fatal on a fast.

I don't think people should fast - but i would always fast personally if i got a fever to remove toxemia.

People should never fast if they think they could possibly need medical assistance - because it is the medical assistance that will kill them more than likely.

Many say they have 6 months to live by doctors - so they stop getting medical assistance and live way way longer - but soon as they go back to the doctors they die quicker.

One women....
Right. In this case, Doug Graham apparently advised the parents NOT to bring their daughter to the hospital. I guess he probably would have advised simply continuing on with the fast to allow the swelling the subside.

BUT what if a person fasting passed out or fell ill with something life-threatening? I'm genuinely curious. Would the fast continue? Would they begin refeeding? Would that be the last resort and would a hospital visit be absolutely necessary?
Standard procedure when on a fast is to refeed when there are serious complications. A swollen cheek I doubt is serious enough to break a fast. The breaking of the fast is in fact the most dangerous part and needs supervision more than the fast itself.

It depends also on how long this particular person had fasted already. I think SAD people (parents, sisters, brothers, spouses, children, etc.) shouldn't be allowed to assist in these cases as they do not understand natural hygiene and the only model they have any idea of is the medical model which is wrong most of the time. When I was using NH to get healed from my UC my mom came to 'help', she was much more of a burden then a help as she tried to convince me to take steroids and she was very nervous and drove me crazy. I would never have anyone 'assist' me with anything pertaining to NH unless they understood NH.
