30 Bananas a Day!

Do we need to eat avocados or other sources of fat to get some essential nutrients or do we get it all from fruits and veggies?

If yes how often do they need to be eaten?

Thanks.

We don't need to eat overt fatty foods like avocados, but they are preferable to eating cooked fatty food like pasta and pizza.  Personally I only eat avocados as a treat in my salads.  Usually, 5% of my calories come from fat on a day that I only eat fruits and veggies.

I find that avocados are so bland...unsalted, they are disgusting to me.  If one needs the overt fats, there is great variety in nuts and seed if you're not quite a fruitarian.

I just had an avocado today to see if I liked them, since everyone is always going on and on about how they're yummy...I guess I'm just not avocado advocate! :)

I remember hearing Dr Graham say he tends to get overts half the year and the other half overt free. For the most part people add it in 2 to 3 times a week.

Thanks for replies

You obviously don't NEED them. But if you're eating any fat, avocados are the best source (unless you have an allergy to them or something). But it's up to you. If you prefer to go for a few nuts or seeds that's fine too. Read 80/10/10 by Dr.Douglas Graham!!! It just explains that and so much more, and in such a down to earth way that you'll understand things better and have less questions/doubts.

Cheers.

I LOVE avocados but never eat them because I want to get thin. I feel like I'm depriving myself, but whatever.

me too >./p>

i bet if you run about 10 miles a day then an avacado every so often might not be harmful.  but i still don't think they would be too beneficial on a daily basis, especially not lots of them.

It is a misconception that you cannot eat overts if you want to lose weight. Just stick to 10% or less of your daily cals from fat and you will be fine. I eat half an avocado per day and tahini in my salad dressing. I have lost 40 lbs so far and still losing! Eat enough sweet fruit and if you feel like having a little avocado, go for it. :-)
I love avocados. So yummy and creamy. My favorite is definitely Fuego!

For my first maybe 8months on this diet, I was afraid to include any overt fats. I felt pretty good doing that.
Later, however, a friend brought me a green smoothie/soup recipe book, and some of the recipes called for a little avocado. That was when I started experimenting occasionally with overts...I realized that after eating some avo or coconut, my face seemed clearer, my skin was smoother & softer, and I felt even better!
Since then I have been including half an avocado (give or take) per night with my salad, and I feel extremely satisfied and comfortable eating this amount of overts.

Just my experience (:

Thanks for this post.  I have had a hard time cutting out fats in junk food and think i will eat the healthier ones for the time being when i have those cravings.  I'm gonna have to look into some good smoothie recipies as the only ones i have been having are bananas with peaches, and bananas with greens.  i bet an avocado would be great in one.

It would be interesting to hear the opinion of long term raw vegan foodists. Where are they?
