30 Bananas a Day!

Hey ya'll! I have been vegan for 7 years, and on and off raw for over 3... I am so passionate about fruit and love eating raw, however I always hit a road block every month or so where my cravings for salty/savory food over take and I can't manage eating another dang apple! Typically I usually last no longer than a two month time block before I can't take it any longer.

For all you long term 80-10-10ers out there, do cravings for salty/savory foods eventually go away? If not, how do you manage with out eating a ton of fat and dehydrated stuff?

Any advice or comments are much appreciated as I really would love to find a way to make this life style work long term for me.

+1 Nothing beats those salty cravings like celery, tomato, & leafy greens :)

They go away in a few days to a few weeks depending on the person.

Its just a caloric craving. Its not salt. If it were a salt craving you could pop a few salt pills and cravings would cease right?

Salt is the WORST thing to eat for weight loss and a youthful face. Do no salt for 2 weeks then add it in and see what you look and feel like the next morning. If you are cycling 6000km a month then you won't hold much salt retention but as soon as you stop sweating it out via hardcore training then its gonna store water retention like a beast. Good if you want to bulk up I guess.

I still have salt on occasion and the next day you crave it again. Cease it for a few days/weeks and the desire goes away again. All of us have been raised on salt for so many decades its a craving the body identifies with caloric intake. Just like scrunching up an empty bag of chips will attract a neighbours dog but not a wild dog that has no idea what packaged food sounds like.

So not worth it. I had soup tonight a friend made, no salt, but it had miso and dulse flakes. My feet and toes swelled up not an hour later. And so thirsty...

Your body does need sodium, and one thing I've noticed on my Cronometer is that sodium levels can be really low.  Check for fruits/veggies that have a good sodium profile for those times.  It may not be a craving that you just need to avoid, but your body telling you what it needs.

These vids were helpful to me on the topic..  They focus on greens..  Veggies and greens contain a little more sodium and a good dose more of minerals, I believe, than fruits do, in general.  You might be craving the salt and/or minerals found in abundance in greens.  I, too, crave savory foods, but I'm usually happy to eat a salad in place of cooked food, which makes me think I'm probably just needing the greens.

You need to watch this Josh Fossgreen video. One of the best videos I've ever seen on youtube:
