Hi all! I'm new to this lifestyle and I'm having trouble finding anything in the forums about telling the difference. I've only found that if the bananas smell like alcohol then they are fermented, but I'm not really sure what that means. Does it mean like the smell of liquor or rubbing alcohol? Also, how can I find out if they've fermented by looking at them and feeling them?
I have a couple bananas that are fully ripe, and I was just about to eat them but I'm not sure if their fermented or not :/ They just have a very sweet smell that I can't really describe but they don't smell like how usual bananas do.
If they taste good they are fine i think, and if they gross they are probably fermented, ew! haha happens to me to often.
So sad to have bananas go to waste :/ Thanks for the help!
Thanks for including a picture :)
If they smell like alcohol, (liquor or rubbing alcohol, either or), they are bad. buy a case or however much you need every three days to stay on top of the ripening process. better to have too much than too little. you can peel and freeze some that are going to get too ripe if you leave them another day. and then put them in smoothies or make banana ice cream. eat the bananas as soon as they have spots on them, keep trying them in different stages and you'll soon be able to sense when they are perfectly ripe. Welcome! :)
Yep I have no problem with freezing them up! Love me some banana ice-cream :D Thanks for your help!
