There's a large group of anti-capitalist protesters protesting peacefully and camping out in lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park. The mission, labeled "Occupy Wall Street," to restore democracy in America has been going on since the 17th of September and even though it hasn't been covered by the media or any major news source, videos and information have been spreading through internet sources like youtube and twitter.
There are also other cities and countries joining in.
I think it's pretty cool that people are stepping up and finally taking action, making a statement that they're tired of being taken advantage of and they're ready to do something about it.
Who knows how much this will affect our world but Kudos to all of them for inspiring a positive change!
This is the biggest world / country news of the moment! I surprised peeps on 30BaD aren't more excited about this... since the protests started, I've been feeling so inspired and hopeful about a major world shift towards the positive.
And so admiring of the protesters in all of the cities, especially New York. It takes a lot of courage to stand up to police brutality. Courage that I don't have.
C'mon 30BaD'ers, show your support! Donate if you can't be there in person, and send them boxes of fruit!
+ 1 Emily:)
I love Freedomain Radio and Stef!
He said that the solution is raising non-violent children.
I don't think any big change can occur before the current system collapses tho..
I agree with you, the best thing is to get away from the system as much as possible and set example for others.
I'm moving to FL soon to start my food forest, hopefully others will follow!!!:)
I came to the Off Topic just to post this. Apparently when you don't have/watch TV you might be the last to know about some things.
II have just donated. Unfortunately I missed the Boston protest. :(
This finally made front page, headline news in my local newspaper yesterday and there's another small article about it today.
I'm happy to see more people are finding out about it.
The cool thing is that people are coming together to make positive change. They're planning another major protest on October 15th. http://october2011.org/blogs/margaret-flowers/october-15-freedom-pl...
Even the Zeitgeist movement is taking notice. http://www.thezeitgeistmovement.com/joomla/ For those who haven't seen the movie, they talk about this type of thing happening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NYAelvn-V8
I haven't been on 30bad in a while, and am surprised this isn't getting more discussion too.
I'm occupying tomorrow in SF.. come out!
