No, they do pack a sweeter punch than most fruits. Try eating celery with them, which combines well as a fine green, water rich, and adds a nice saltiness to the mix.
If they are too sweet then blend them with strawberries or something with a bit more tartness. They also pair well with lettuce or celery.

I have the same issue. Datorade burns my throat. It's lessened over time, however.

I agree. I only eat dates as a snack or I will eat about 3-4 with my morning bananas. I never really make dateorade because it gives me such a sweet headache!
