He's only speculating, he doesn't present any facts. Seems like he's supplanting scientific data with some type of food philosophising. Also i haven't bothered to check the veracity of his claims about apples but it's really moot, just because humans have selectively bred apples into existence doesn't mean they aren't a good food for us. Apples are still fruits, which our system is best adapted to handle.
Where my family is originally from, they still grow small green not too sweet apples - not sure if these are the apples Daniel Vitalis speaks of. The culture there does not encourage drinking so these apples are not converted to cider; also, the people there eat a lot more fruit than in the west so when these apples are in season, it's not uncommon for someone to eat 1-2 LBs of them in a sitting - and these people are not fruitarian at all : ) ...
Also, I had my dad try an heirloom tomato and he almost had tears in his eyes because it reminded him of the tomatoes he tasted when he was very young back home. After world war 2, the world changed a lot. Some of what Daniel Vitalis is saying is true. Crops as we know them in the last 50-100 years (depending on the country you're in) have changed due to the spread of technology, modern agriculture and the different seeds being used.
He is warning that fruit is hybridized. I do appreciate heirloom fruits / veggies when I have tried them, but the hybridized kinds are good too : ) I personally prefer the hybridized fruit over any prepared/processed food anyday.
It also sounds like he doesn't believe in monocropping and agriculture which is the main source of our food today, but I hope that eventually I can become less reliant on these agribusinesses. I do try to buy organic and prefer to buy from small farms.
He is also warning of health movements that try to sell you certain products. This is what I like about this lifestyle, all I need is a grocery store (farmer's market / co-op) and an appetite. I don't need to buy superfoods, supplements, ... etc. : ) ... And for those who grow their own food, they don't even need to leave their yard : )
I shouldn't have watched this in a bad mood, will someone please put this ignorant, deluded jumped up little man in his place! I've never heard someone talk about "evolution" with such a clear lack of understanding - do you know why most fruits get sweeter and there for more popular with animals? - because modern the world is out to get you! Avoid the sweet fruit! ... ummm isn't it because the plant itself is more successful? NOOOO sugar is evil!
And whats with the laughter,/ sniggering audience, what bunch of awful judgemental trip is watching this guy, who the hell does it effect if I wanna live of fruit? these people clearly couldn't look after themselves and will jump from one fad to the next, eventually either living a generic SAD lifestyle or ruin there health more than the average with all there scare-mungering and bad attitude.
I'm currently tucking into a nice bowl of chopped apples with blended apple source! I'm glad that my unaturally sweet meal will not be being enjoyed by these losers.
