What the hell is wrong with this banana?! It looks uber ripe but it tastes like utter shit! Its all starchy and not sweet at all! Anyone else in fall/winter climate finding it hard to find good bananas? All the ones I see in the store are just green and I dont want to get them because I keep thinking they'll ripen all weird. Any tips on choosing and ripening bananas in the winter? Help me! I miss bananas!
yes. I find that getting bananas that don't taste like crap can be difficult at times in my area too. I find that getting organic bananas helps. They usually ripen up better and taste better for me. I've also learned to avoid certain brands, and I've learned the look of a crappy banana. I'm getting better and better at avoiding the weird ones.
I don't take kindly to those "weirdo" banana imposters!
omg i know this hole issue about good bananas in the winter. but really i think it's also about them being organic or not. when they're not usually they look more like that. good luck;)
This banana looks more bruised, rather than ripe, as it isn't brown and spotty yet.
Oh I totally forgot to mention. These ARE organic. And not just regular grocery store organic, but Health Food Store organic so they even cost me more.
Victoria you need to to wrap them up and place them in a warm place (accelerates ripening until they get like what "Raw P" said "spotty" all over!! Nice pen note on your thumb!
Great tip! I put all my bananas and apples and pears together in a brown paper bag near the window to get some sunlight because my apartment is really damn cold right now!
PS: The pen note says hemp haha! I was making a note to buy hemp seeds
I concur with Raw P, this banana looks very bruised, not ripe at all.
I often buy the bananas for $.99/lb at Whole Paycheck, and they are always perfect, organic, fair trade, and darn delish.
Stick to one brand and don't lose faith.
yup...definitely bruised and not ripe...the ripe ones are more spotty than blackened like that. However, I have found some that look like that sometimes can still be sweet.
I have the similar problem these days, the store I buy my bananas switched to the different kind, and they go from unripe right to rotten... Getting organic bananas isn't an option for me, they just are not available in our stores, or well... only rarely.... It's kind of upsetting.
Like some of the others have mentioned...
WHERE ARE THE DOTS???????? THE 30 BAD RULE: DO NOT PEEL IF THERE ARE NO DOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
