everything about this way of living is so logical to me and i love simple logic and simple living.
there is one thing though... maybe someone can explain this a little bit more.
logically one would think if a person eats say 2000 calories a day then he/she might need more rest than a person who eats 4000 calories a day cos that person has less energy. i've read several times people asking questions about their lack of sleep and one of the responses is always "eat more calories."
so, can someone explain why "eat more calories to get good sleep" logic?
i've only been in this forum a month or so and i'm loving it! thank you all!
that makes sense. thanks!
When we undereat, our bodies have various functions that will drive us to go hunt for food. For example, when we are hungry and or suffering from malnutrition, our bodies will release hormones such as adrenaline that may give us both a temporary energy boost, and perhaps historically, drove us to go forage for food. Getting a shot of adrenaline aka epinephrine is like drinking a cup of coffee though. This will disturb our sleep and also causes some people to go and binge, and most of us have found that our bodies crave and drive us to binge on high fat items and or unhealthy foods.
Best to do like our primate cousins do, get up with the sun, get outside and exercise, and eat 2-3 or more times during the day to ensure all systems are a go and in sync for sleeping at night.
I also concur with Fruit of Life too here regarding eating enough during the day and the benefits of doing so.
There are some chemicals in food that may energize us during the day, but when processed by the body, may product metabolites such as melatonin that help us sleep during the night.
For example, nuts and seeds may be high in the amino acid tryptophan that not only assist our bodies in protein synthesis, but also a precursor to serotonin needed for mental health and serotonin is in turn converted to melatonin which helps us sleep and maintain our circadian rhythm.
So a snack of 1-2-3 oz of nuts or seeds around 4 pm can give a temporary energy boost, lift our mood, and then assist us in sleeping later on!
thanks a lot!
With that said, Its 9:59pm and Im off to bed! :)
:-) thanks harley! you rock!
