So, today is Day 4 for me after going cold turkey from a SAD diet, and so far I've had a continuous headache, which I'm assuming is from detox. Now I'm having a bit of a breakout, some definite irritability, and strangest of all - leg and back cramps. Could the cramps be from detox as well? I thought bananas were supposed to prevent them? I'm confused!
It may be normal to have some detox symptoms depending on what foods you gave up and how much you were eating. Coffee and grains can have addicting properties.
I am not sure what to say about the leg cramps.
Is this the first time you are experiencing the cramps?
Do you think you are eating enough calories. Depending on the size of your bananas, you may need to eat 25-30 a day.
Some people also start eating greens during their banana island as well. Most healthy long termers have to eat about 1/2-2 pounds of greens a day.
Are you drinking enough water? We have to drink about 2-5 quarts of water a day.
Last but not least, if your body is not reacting well to banana island, then you can go ahead and start adding in other kinds of fruit.
Thanks so much for the advice,
I actually have a long history of leg cramps (my family has huge calf muscles), but I'm thinking maybe you're right about not enough water, I'm having a hard time drinking alot on top of all those bananas - i just feel so full - but I'll definitely try to ramp up the water consumption. I'm definitely starting to crave greens, so will introduce those soon as well.
Hi Mindi - I get leg cramps if I eat a large amount of bananas and nothing else. It may simply be an electrolyte balance...too much potassium and not enough calcium and/or magnesium.
