Hello everyone. So I have this friend on Facebook that I used to work with (and we were acquaintances with each other) who posts a lot of hate on my veg friendly and anti-GMO posts. While I respect his differences it really bothers me to consistently be put down for what I believe in. So the other day he posted this video:
on my Facebook page and I have yet to respond/comment back on it. I was wondering if I could get some help in finding factual non-biased peer review study or something similar to help me out?
I did try to look it up and apparently my research skills are lacking because, like this gentleman said, it was very difficult for me to find this information.
greetings cortney! and welcome to 30bad!
there's plenty of veg support right on 30bad (check the science category) and here:
(if you want actual studies i have many of them)
ednshell and others should be able to help with gmo.
While I respect his differences it really bothers me to consistently be put down for what I believe in.
may i suggest that there are two things wrong with this statement:
1. what you believe in is irrelevant. in fact, what you believe is also irrelevant. so you shouldn't feel bad about being put down for irrelevancies. what's important is that we circulate the truth and there's plenty of it in the form of peer reviewed, huge sample size, long duration scientific studies. therefore, it's the established facts which are important, not our beliefs.
2. there is no point in respecting someone else merely for their 'differences'. if the guy promotes doofusness, there is little value in respecting that.
in any case, let me know through my comment board if i can be of specific assistance as i'll likely not be following this thread. if you want to improve your research skills, we can help there too. there's also a lot of useful material on 30bad and that may be a good place to start.
The number 1 argument I have against GMO foods is that Monsanto determines when, how and IF the seeds will grow.
Some have been created to use particular fertilizers, which Monsanto, conveniently, sells. What happens when that fertilizer gets priced at $1000 per liter or lb? What happens when that variety of seed becomes the only world-wide commercially available variety like the Cavendish Banana?
Some have been created to grow once and, even if the produce has seeds, they are sterile. Need more seeds? Who ya gonna call?
Frankly, if your workmate prefers to let others do his thinking for him, why should you care? It's not your job to debate him because you're just giving him more ammo to upset you with and too much time in your head rent-free. Ignore him and let your audience decide for themselves while you present the info from pradtf's links.
Gosh, what a douche he is. And a pretty lousy researcher.
Use this Google search term = monsanto cross pollination lawsuit
Check out the first 2 links. After those, this link leads to details about the case in the 2nd link.
I'm almost 5 minutes into this and I can't watch any more. Best of luck.
