I have noticed that after becoming a 90% raw vegan, I have been feeling some chest pain, which feels very similar to heart burn that I would not normally get. It feels like this tightness, and usually happens after I drink orange juice or eating pineapple.
Can anyone shed some light onto this?
A few of us including myself are allergic to pineapple. People who have a previous known allergy to latex should be careful with pineapple. Perhaps eliminate it for a while until you are used to this diet.
We highly recommend that members not do it. Juicing removes the fiber from fruit and causes a whole host of digestive and physical symptoms.
Juicing Not Recommended
Some of our members have had troubles with juicing such as indigestion, sour and or acidic stomach, acid reflux, blood sugar spikes, dizziness, brain fog, diarrhea, blood in feces, constipation, and inability to absorb and assimilate calories, vitamins and minerals in spite of high calorie count. The high sugar and acid content of some juices may give some people teeth pain and oral issues such as sores and bleeding gums.
Juicing removes the fiber from the fruits n veggies.
Importance of Fiber on Any Diet
The soluble fiber in fruit and some vegetables may gel up inside the intestine. This fiber slows down digestion and regulates assimilation of nutrients as well as water absorption.
Diets high in animal products may have little or no fiber, and diets high in grain products that have insoluble fiber actually may scrape and irritate the intestines like shards of glass and do not digest well.
Fruits are high in soluble fiber which also causes easy elimination of feces just like toothpaste being squeezed from a tube. This soluble fiber attracts water and turns to gel in the intestines. (Ref: Soluble vs Insoluble Fiber, Soluble and Insoluble Fiber)
Without this fiber, nutrients, calories, and carbohydrates can pass right through the system without being digested and assimilated and possibly lead to unwanted weight loss and or malnutrition.
It is better to train the digestive system right from the beginning to properly chew, digest, and assimilate fruits and leafy greens. If you are having a difficult time with calories, then smoothies might be a compromise. With smoothies, the whole fruits and greens are blended and some of the fiber is still intact.

You also mentioned being 90%. Fruits do not play well with other foods. If you were to eat a slower digesting food like fat or grains, and then put fruit and or juices on top of that, that is a recipe for indigestion.
We highly recommend that people skip the transition and go 100% if and when possible.
We focus on whole raw ripe fruit and lettuce greens, and about a handful of nuts a day if tolerated. (Some people cannot eat nuts and that is ok.)
Lettuce greens should not be confused with the cruciferous veggies like kale and spinach. These are high oxalate foods and can cause indigetion and a host of health problems. Other high oxalate foods are animal products, dairy, grains, tubers and potatoes, legumes and beans, some nuts and seeds, most cruciferous veggies like kale and spinach, tea, coffee, and chocolate.
Also, grains and starchy foods cause problems of their own...
So in conclusion, try to give a few days going 100% and see if you feel any better.
if PKs recommendations dont work then id guess its wind in your oesophagus - a lot of us have experienced it from time to time - straighten your backup & burp should get rid of it.
Thank you for the advice, I will take into account the juicing, since I usually drink 4 litres of orange juice a day, I will reduce this and see how it goes to report if I am still getting these pains :).
I don't think so? Tropicana claims to be pure juice.
If you are going to drink juice, it should be fresh, not pasteurized. If you buy it in a bottle like that, it's not okay to drink.
tropicana is garbage juice -totally useless.
If your juice is not raw freshly made (by yourself) --but canned or bottled than its crap. Living juice is the only good form- emergencys excluded.
What do you mean "living juice"? Are there any brands you would reccomend? I don't have enough time to mess with oranges, hard to get into, leave it to the experts.
Living juice is freshly made juice. You are not going to be able to buy it at a store. You really shouldn't be drinking juice anyway, you need the fiber from the fruit for proper digestion. You're better off just eating the oranges. If you really do want orange juice, you can get a little handheld citrus juicer - you won't even need to peel the oranges, just cut them in half. It's probably $10 or less, and you'll even get a little bit of pulp. Don't waste your money on any bottled juice. If you don't have time to eat properly, then make time.
Well, at most I have been drinking 1 Litre of juice a day, I replaced the rest with banana based smoothies- I have noticed I rarely get heart ache now, thanks guys! : )
I was a little confused where the 90% raw comes from while drinking 4 litres daily of pasteurized oj. But I'm glad that you are feeling better.
Honestly, I didn't know what pasteurized meant, so I guess not. Thanks.
First, you are consuming acid and sub acid fruits. You already have acidosis. Everyone is acidic and has toxemia unless the person has been raw for a very long time and has undergone very deep detoxifications.
Please understand that you have inherent genetic weaknesses that will and do manifest whether we recognize this fact or not. They are inherited from our parents and to a lessor degree from our grandparents and given the dietary lifestyle I would say most to all of us grew up with, we all have mucus formed plaque blockages, cellular damage and glandular and organ weaknesses. Understand that this is ""normal"" for all of us.
What you are experiencing are several weaknesses that are manifesting as this chest pain. Your lymph system is clogged, your endocrine, thyroid, pancreas, liver and adrenals are weak. I can see this not just in what you have posted but in your photo. The sphincter muscle that keeps the acids in your GI, down within your upper GI is weakened a bit. This is simply an aspect of your weaknesses.
How long have you been raw? What other symptoms are you experiencing ?
Everything Im writing here is fixable, heal able and reversible.
