So I'm excited to learn more about fruit....trying new fruits is fun but...it's annoying to me that when you start only buying things in the produce section...the cashiers tend not to know what the items are. I believe I got charged a lot more for a product then I should have, because they put the fruit down under the wrong name. I wasn't sure what it was so I asked her and she said she thinks it is a pear...It was some kind of papaya. She also didn't know what a starfruit was. I want to try new fruits but I don't want to end up paying a bunch more money for something I didn't even buy. They didn't have all the fruit marked with picture and names like most of them have.
Anyone else have issues with cashiers not knowing what things are?
I'm a fruit newb, but still think that those selling the fruit should know something about it...atleast the NAME yanno?
Am I asking too much? XD
Try to find the employee working in the produce section. Whenever I find a new fruit or even one that I'm just not too familiar with I like to have them help me pick them out. Just ask them what they know about it and how to tell if it's ripe and such. I was actually at the store today and saw dragon fruit and feijoa for the first time and did just this. Although she didn't really seem to know too much about them this time around, she did cut some open and let me sample. :)
I use the self-checkout most of the time. >.>
The fruit has stickers with the PLU on them here though, so we can just type it in the computer. Ugh technology.
