So I'm excited to learn more about fruit....trying new fruits is fun but...it's annoying to me that when you start only buying things in the produce section...the cashiers tend not to know what the items are. I believe I got charged a lot more for a product then I should have, because they put the fruit down under the wrong name. I wasn't sure what it was so I asked her and she said she thinks it is a pear...It was some kind of papaya. She also didn't know what a starfruit was. I want to try new fruits but I don't want to end up paying a bunch more money for something I didn't even buy. They didn't have all the fruit marked with picture and names like most of them have.
Anyone else have issues with cashiers not knowing what things are?
I'm a fruit newb, but still think that those selling the fruit should know something about it...atleast the NAME yanno?
Am I asking too much? XD
That's our lot in life, Neko!
They barely teach the three R's in skool these days, much less the names of fruit! ;)
Pretty soon you'll be easily recognizing and enjoying fruits even you'd never seen before.
If ever there was a WTFudge, this is it:
They get paid minimum wage their not required to know much outside of working the register. :-/
All produce has a PLU code that cashiers need to enter after weighing your bag. This site has most/all of the produce codes listed by the fruit name alphabetically.
It has definitely helped me since I am still learning about different fruits and trying to pay for exactly what I intend to purchase. Print a copy and bring it with you to the store till you can get most of the common ones memorized. Remember the more produce you bring through a cashiers line, the more they are forced to learn about new fruits.
