30 Bananas a Day!

Can we make a list of great things and terrible things to take on a plane?

In a couple of weeks I'm going to be going to Fl via plane to visit the bfs family and I would love to know what is going to be good to take on the plane both on the way there and the way back. I don't care so much about eating ON the plane, but I know we'll need food for when we get there and get back here.

So, tell me, what have been your successes and failures. I know a few people have said mango=BAD! bananas=good as long as they are carry on. dates and oranges good.
I am thinking about trying to buy mamey, sapodilla, papaya, and melons when I'm in Fl, and hopeing someone knows if that stuff can fly so that if I don't finish it I can bring it back (I'm frugal).

I don't usually eat at all on plane flights but just drink plenty of water, for carry on for after the trip I think dates are the best, oranges are great, I have actually eaten a melon once on board coming back from Thailand, depends on what you ate before the trip too and how much you need to refuel, I would go for higher calorie fruits after lots of water. Haven't had many fruit failures to speak off, just take easy to transport fruits..
I think on the way there I'd love to eat a big orange meal, because it always frustrates me on the planes how you are incapable of getting much water. They refuse to fill up a water bottle for you and give you tiny four once cups, so hopefully (if I even want to eat on the plane) I will be nice and hydrated eating yummy juicy oranges.

But for the way back I am just worried about weather we can bring any stuff we don't finish (since we'll only be there for 5 days and have a super long travel day on the way back). Luckily our farmer's market is the day after we get back, since I don't think we'll leave much fresh fruit in our home while we're gone.
they will give you refills it's just you have to ask every time you see the flight attendant (which isn't often). the "no liquid" rule is so stupid! you should be able to take water in a clear glass jar.
I suppose I could just make sure I eat them all on the plane. Do you know where I can get that info?
Don't take Durian.. it's not allowed on planes!!

When I do long distance travel I always take a fruit case!! :) one of those little ones on wheals. that's for trips over 20hrs though... the sniffer dogs love it at the other end..

Lots of easy stuff like apples, stone fruit, figs etc. I've even taken a massive papaya on my way back from Bali.

If it's a short flight containers with chopped fruit works well because you can eat it with something and not get all messed up. I've even taken cantalope, persimmons, mangoes and papaya like this.

Its really easy just take what you like to eat, the hostesses always check out what I'm eating and say mine looks heaps better than what they are handing out! :)

so it sounds like, so far, the only thing that goes bad is mango?
I went to Minneapolis in Feb for business for three days. I carried a back pack full of bananas on plane and 1/2 case of oranges in luggage. Worked great. Was able to fill in with other fruit while there. Never know what may or may not be available out of town. Brought up interesting conversation at dinner with others when I show up with eight bananas.
