Bumping up! Know any good websites that sell raw dates?
Have you tried The Date People? Link here: http://www.datepeople.net
Best prices I've found for raw unheated unfrozen organic sustainably grown dates, shipped right to your door. an 11-lb box is around $65 USD.
Best of luck,
Living Tree Community Foods look like a great option
(spoke with them once and they confirmed they are raw):
I have ordered from datepeople.net and 7hotdates.com ... and they are the best!
Seen a few people on here mention eatdates.com
The season is kind of ending!
So, what does that mean? What do I do for the rest of the year when it comes to dates? I was getting a psyched up to add them to my HCRV repertoire, and now I am confused. I realize that I don't eat 100% locally and am okay with that for now, but is this it for dates- no more till next year? I am breathing in, exhaling, ahhhh...okay, not freaking out! ;)
All things can be gotten out of season, but the price will be higher and the quality lower.
We just made an order to an Australia farm. The dates are not organic but they are local & farmer direct. They cost more than organic dates shipped all the way from California that have passed thru 3 wholesalers lol!.
Not complaining though, just pointing out how rawsome the US is for cert organic fruit.
I buy 15lb boxes of delicious, gooey dates for $35 plus shipping from http://www.shieldsdates.com (click on their "Promotions" section).
They are not organic, but they sure look/feel raw, and they taste amazing (we get Khadrawi dates)...and they do the job when it comes to getting in an appropriate amount of calories each day. :)
And I just found this jewel on their website:
"We still grow the dates without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. There are no preservatives used on the dates— when you buy Shields' dates you are getting a healthful, natural treat that is higher in potassium than bananas, with no fat and no sodium."
Oh, that's disappointing, but good to know because I was thinking of getting Barhis next time. I guess I will stick with Khadrawis! Thanks for the heads up! :)
Although, we mostly use dates for dateorade, so I guess the dryness wouldn't be that much of an issue. I love eating fresh gooey dates, but I'm always secretly terrified that they'll rot my teeth out. O_O
Oh wait...Peter, are you talking about shieldsdates or harrysdates??
hey mama orangutan- why are you worried about dates rotting your teeth out? is it just the sugar, or something i don't know(eek!!)?
No, not the sugar...but dates are sticky and I'm really bad about flossing and brushing after every meal...so I'm afraid the sticky delicious date goo will get stuck in my teeth and start doing damage before I brush at night. :P
