30 Bananas a Day!

Can anyone tell me about using buckwheat sprouts as a green?  I've read that they are technically a fruit, not a grain, and the tender greens are very nice and mild.  Wondering where they play into LFRV because I've not seen any mention of them here yet.  Thanks !

im not sure, but interested to find out. good post!
Some people say that buckwheat is a grain, some say it's a fruit, and some say that it's a vegetable if it's sprouted...

I decided to buy some buckwheat groats about 3 months and try them. What I did was I soaked them in water and then waited until they had the little tails growing out of them and then I blended them with some water and ate them like oatmeal.

It tasted pretty good to me, but about 10 minutes later I suddenly started feeling so tired that I literally fell asleep while taking a shower and I had to lay down and go to sleep about 8 hours earlier than normal that day. Plus when I woke up I had a strong taste of buckwheat in my mouth as if my body was still trying to digest it.

The next day I decided to try it again and not only did it not taste very good to me this time, but it felt so dry to me compared to the things that I'm used to eating that it felt like like I was eating a big bowl of sand, and when I was finished eating it I told myself, "Never again".
Yes, but I am talking about the greens. I imagine the sprouted grouts would be pretty difficult to digest. But thanks for sharing your experience!
I heard that they can be toxic..Maybe not several leaves, but bigger amount.
Hmm...thank you Bella, this is exactly what I needed to see, because while I don't have any discernable reaction, I've always intuitively not chosen buckwheat greens and wondered why, because they seem so tender and delicious looking. This is why, though. Thank you so much!
Speaking of quinoa, why do so many raw foodists eat it?

Back when I first went raw it was very common to run into raw foodists who would say that they aren't 100% raw because the do eat steamed vegetables every once in a while, but over the past year or two I've noticed that they are a lot of raw foodists now that say that they aren't 100% raw because they do eat cooked quinoa every once in a while...

Did a really well known raw food guru strat promoting quinoa recently or something? It just strikes me as odd that I keep running into raw foodists that are convinced that quinoa is so healthy and beneficial that it's worth adding cooked quinoa to their diet even if they avoid every other form of cooked food out there.

Just wondering
It's a reletively clean transition food, heirloom and high protien. Personally, I found it difficult to digest, even when it was properly rinsed of saponins and therefore a non-food. Important to remember that for many, transitioning takes a couple years. But it's true, Dan, that sprouted was the most digestable. I made sprouted quinoa and amaranth salads for long hikes and camping that worked at the time.
I know that grains are a no-no for 811 but are sprouted quinoa bad for you ?
I couldn't really imagine any sprouts being a natural food to us humans. When you consider the fact that we have evolved in the tropics, how would we find sprouts to eat, they are so small and they are usually deep in the soil. The only foods I can imagine are healthy for us are wild tropical fruit and tender greens/veggies.
When I compare the people here who eat high fruit low fat diets, to say compared to on goneraw.com, i notice a big different in the peoples glow. People here look amazing and healthy. Although people on goneraw.com do look healthier than the average SAD advocate, they eat alot of unnatural things like sprouted and non sprouted grains/seeds/nuts rather than focusing on fruits, our natural food.
Yes, I see that too. Sprouts are low fat. I am thinking they are maybe a very good green to add. But not necessarily sustainable. Unless I grow a crop for seed along with a crop for greens, it's hard to maintain a sprout garden. Then again - hello - we live in the modern world and I can easily get anything I need, thereby supporting others in their livilihood, so - why worry about nothing, I say to myself... : ) Eventually fuel will be worked out to be environmentally sound. I think we will be able to support farmers from all over the world with our trade and all is well.
Buckwheat is reletively easy to do that with on a small scale which is why I wondered about it here, but I think I will look into another option after hearing about it's toxicity, which agreed with my vaugly intuitive feelings anyway. Or I may just continue buying them - I'm happy to support someone's farming dream!
