I've probably touched on it before but the biblical diet was originally fruit. Placed in the garden of Eden we would have had plentiful supply of it all year around. After the fall, when removed from the garden, we then had seasons so God said we were to eat vegetables as well then. This of course being because fruit is not always in season so we need various phytochemicals from another source during those times: vegetables.
We're very blessed now that we can actually get fruit all year around.
The meat eating in the bible was actually linked to the sacrificial system and very rarely done.
This guy Walter Veith is a brilliant scientist and has done many experiments even on carnivorous animals which basically reveal they are far better off on a vegan diet. He says the most pure diet we can be on is fruit.
Of course after the fall certain things weren't always available so they began to eat eachother. Translocation of species forces them to behave differently to survive. For example a bird in New Zealand which only ate a certain type of berry had the trees removed by farmers, so out of desperation they actually attacked sheep. They would burrow into their back and eat the fat around their kidneys and sheep were dying all over the area.
The farmers were of course really unhappy with this so discovered the problem and replanted the trees. These birds then stopped killing sheep and went back to the berries :)
You know bears eat about 85% berries, and graze the rest of the time or eat other plants. They only time they eat Salmon is after hybernation when all of the plant life is frozen over; it is their only option in order to live.
The leader of a lion pride always gets the first bite out of a catch. They go straight for the stomach and eat the contents - plant food. They grow bigger and stronger than the rest! In fact many zoos feed lions and other carnivores vegetarian diets because they grow bigger, stronger, live longer and are friendly.
I'm just posting this because I see the bible being completely disregarded as trash here. Popular misconceptions of what the bible says are trash, for example eternal torment, worshipping on Sunday, the Pope (and generally the whole Roman Catholic church, it is actually revealed in biblical prophecy as a beast which will persecute God's people throughout the ages, and generally everyone else who disagrees with them), and all sorts of things.
I can completely justify my faith, generally by facts in the world around us. My favourite is the fruit facts :)
http://amazingdiscoveries.tv/category_list/ some interesting videos here in the Health section. Walter Veith's testimony under Sermons > Walter Veith is good.
dont you think this is better suited & appreciated in the sites christian group seeming its of religious opinions.
I didn't know there was such a group...

I think this is a great topic for fruit! What are the chances a book written ages ago has the same diet we find so rewarding?
The chances are pretty great, considering the fact that fruit is key for us and we've been eating it for ... ever.
The story of Adam and Eve is extremely sexist, acting as a sexist foundation for the religious view. Not to mention the worship of a white guy in the sky.
He, in the sky creates the earth in seven days... And creates another man just like him. He sounds lonely and self obsessed. Then the female is just a rib bone that get's a little too curious one day and get's enticed by a serpent (falic symbol) and screws everything up.
If you ask me, I'de say that religion doesn't encourage curiosity, especially that of a woman.
This is not to say that there isn't some truth beauty and significance to the book or at least the Essene scrolls. I suppose they were banking on the idea that a lie is more powerful when mixed with truth.
The female is not a rib. That word means wing or part, like the wing or section of a building. It is a great part.
Adam was originally created male and female. If you read the text this is clear. The female part was taken out and Eve was created.
I see no sexism issues in Genesis. If it is true it is true that the first woman was allowed herself to disobey God, then it is just a historical fact. It is not a sexist story if it is stating facts.
Many other women do, also many men.
No one ever said God was a white guy. Adam and Eve actually would have likely been middle brown as well.
Too much to share, so little time :P
:) Yay Fennec well said!!!
Thanks Fennec! This is going to be my go to post whenever I hope to defend my own decision to eat vegan (and eventually LFRV). But, I also wanted to state that per the book of Genesis, Adam was there when Eve took that bite of the forbidden fruit. Although many in history blame Eve, the responsibility was both the male and female - therefore, no sexism should be observed, since they were both punished as well. I agree, religion, as a collection of beliefs, may not encourage curiosity. However, the bible isn't religion. Individuals can use their own curiosity to discover WHICH system of beliefs they decide to follow - as we ALL have a belief system. Some people choose to continue exploring their beliefs throughout their lives, while many others pick a path and follow it until the end of their lives because they feel their curiosity may lead them astray.
+1..... I agree Jessie :)
When I decided to become a LFRV I actually considered the scriptures, and the first person I thought of was Daniel. Lots of people in churches today say they are going on the "Daniel Fast", but for Daniel it was a way of life, not a fast. And it was one that left him much healthier than all those around him in captivity. I've never heard a preacher address Daniels diet as a recommendation for health and healing, but the scriptures seem pretty clear in that text.
Just like in the garden of Eden when God tells Adam and eve to eat the fruit of the trees, He tells Noah to eat Animals when he and his wife/children come off the ark. Following a world wide flood there would have been no fruit, crops or any form of sustenance. So God permitted them to eat the animals. Of course today, we don't need to rely on animals to eat, we have an abundance of fruits, vegetables, Nuts and seeds to eat.
From Daniel (NIV)
11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, 12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” 14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.
15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.
Also samson was a vegan (or at least vegetarian but I would imagine vegan due to it saying he only eats vegetable). He was the strongest man ever possibly (at least since the flood). There are also modern examples of super strong vegetarians.
Paul recommends wine for a bad stomach (there is no question that wine in the bible refers to unfermented wine, due to the theological representation, other bits of context and admonitions of alcohol). Red grape juice is about the most alkaline drink you can get, brilliant for stomach problems :)
